Easiest way to weigh a boat

Sure. I'm trying to determine if a boat is waterlogged, so I want to figure the weight of the boat alone. I can get the weight info for boat, motor, and trailer...I would like to try to figure out some way to weigh it without having to take it somewhere. Don't really feel like spending over a...

Easiest way to weigh a boat

Most used boats are on unregistered trailers, so taking one to a set of scales is not plausible--that's if there are scales within a reasonable distance. Anyone have any ideas on some sort of portable scale for weighing a boat on a trailer?

Are Boston Whalers as prone to waterlogging as other boats?

Your many responses to my question are much appreciated. :-)

Are Boston Whalers as prone to waterlogging as other boats?

They are known to be well built and "unsinkable" and usually are pretty expensive, but are Whalers as prone to waterlogged foam as any other older fiberglass boat? A 1995 Dauntless has caught my eye but man, I just don't know about that waterlogging issue.

Do older aluminum boats have the same issues with waterlogged foam?

I just don't read/hear about foam issues with aluminum boats; is there a difference with the foam in older aluminum boats as opposed to fiberglass?

Lovely boat at the slip. Any ideas ?

Whatever it is, it doesn't appear as though those two fellows are very comfortable with it.

    Looking for a boat

I agree that a closed bow is safer for the ocean. Bowriders are fine for a lake, but where you're going to be you'll want a closed bow. Check out all the "Haulover inlet" videos on Youtube and you'll see what I mean. Best of luck.

    New member, first boat

That Fisherman looks like a real puff. As does the boat, for that matter. The trailer is obviously newer. Nice acquisition!

1966 40hp Big Twin to Suzuki DF25 on 14' SC holiday?

I agree. The OMC 40 was one of the best motors ever made. While the Suzuki is also a great motor, you'd miss the 15 hp. On the other hand, the Suzuki would be quiet, fumeless, and easier on fuel.

Great day on the boat, then ran aground.....What to have checked?

We've had a few boaters hit obstructions on my lake and then scamper up to the town hall to try to collect damages. I don't believe anyone's been successful....yet. As such, the town put up a sign at the boat launch stating, "Not all obstructions are marked...use at your own risk." Or...

    I Need a Mooring Cover

I have a mooring cover for my Lyman that I had custom made, and it fits well with snaps. Only problem is, it's a pain to put on when it's at the dock. And I'm not getting any younger, either. We also have an old Starcraft that I got at a local retailer Much easier to install the cover when...

Does anyone know about a 1978 Bahama trihull?

Well, it initially looks to a very good condition. However, there are two issues as I see it. (1) Possible waterlogged flotation, the bane of just about any older fiberglass boat. (2) The older outdrive may not be much fun come service time. Best of luck.

    Will My Boat work?

When I was 11 we skiied behind a 10 hp Evinrude. I tried it later as an adult and no dice. :-)

    Question: 1957 18hp Johnson

It was always my understanding that after 1960 the bearings on these were improved which enabled a 50:1 mix. I'd stick with the 24:1 with your '57. They were/are great motors, and very popular--and back then we just didn't realize how good they actually were.

Hull form versus engine power and torque In maintaining a boat on plain

I think hull design is one of the biggest factors in ease of planing. A flat-bottomed boat will plane much more easily than a deep V. You can skip a flat rock across the water easily, but not a round one--unless you could somehow launch it at three times your arm strength. The trade-off with...

Talk me out of this old Glastron, please....

This old boat keeps talking to me. I like older Glastrons, but am not sure about this I/o. Opinions, please? Thanks... https://nh.craigslist.org/boa/d/1974-glastron-179-starflite/6277925556.html

Bought a boat, not enough motor!!!

Greetings, new member here. Just bought a 2003 Starcraft Patriot 140 which popped up on craigslist. The boat is in pristine condition, as is the motor, a 2004 Johnson 25. I was, however, afraid that it wouldn't have quite enough motor, but the price was right, so I took the plunge. Sure...
