installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

I went out today and pulled both hubs from both props. The large ends appear to be the same size when held end to end. When dropped into the same prop the FT2 sits visibly lower in the bore than the RBX. The difference is probably 1/4" ~3/8". The friction of the rubber would account for some of...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

I've been trying to find info on that 48-11074a40. https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury-racing-outboard-parts/merc-xr2/0b290314-thru-0c276429-usa/gear-housing-propeller-shaft-rhr The nut, tab washer and front washer are listed. Just not the hub...

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

What I was trying to say was, the prop that you are asking about, is it the correct prop for those hubs? Check the prop's part number.

installing new hub in merc. quicksilver stainless 23p

My RBX102 and Flow Torque II hubs fit snug in both my Mercury 21P and Quicksilver 19P Mercruiser props. I'd start with checking the prop part number.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive shaft seal?

According to what I've read, the lower units drive shaft will raise when its in gear and a load is applied. You could try lifting the shaft (turning the prop?) to see if the shiny area moves up enough to be covered by the upper units housing and seal. achris should know. Mines apart or I'd look.

    Alpha one gen 1 questions

And over time the prop can get damaged being less efficient. We don't know. The reason for the statement, and I still stand behind it, is a starting point to see if what you have is somewhat in the ball park. If the manufacturer called for a 17P prop of a certain diameter and you have a 19P...

    Alpha one gen 1 questions

All due respect to those who have years of experience but what prop did the boat come with from the factory? My boat the boat came with a 13.75 x 21P prop yet the one that was on it was a 14.25 x 19P. I'd find that information first and move forward from there.

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

I had thought about that earlier. What I might do is get some H.S.S., plasma cut a wrench outline and grind out the opening for the nut. S.E.I Gen 2 lower is $1075 plus the kit.

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

Most of the tools can be gotten locally for cheap money. (including the three shimming tools) Some of the others can be fabricobbled. Dial indicator, in lb beam style torque wench, press, bearing removal plate those I have. The slide hammer I think a friend of mine has so I would need to get the...

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

Well I ain't paying no one to rebuild it so zero there. I have most of the special tools necessary to repair it 'located' but this one was the stickler to get it apart for inspection. When I get the carrier removed I'll see what the forward gear looks like then decide If I want to buy the tool...

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

1995 Alpha 1 Gen 2 Can the lower unit drive shaft be removed without the tool (91-61067A3 pinion nut adapter) used to hold the pinion nut? I need to remove the shaft (45-816472) in order to properly? flush the lower and inspect the forward, reverse, pinion gears and shaft bearings. Thanks in...

PLEASE HELP NEW BOAT OWNER CRACK

If you have a good understanding of how to change things on an automobile and can follow written directions, yes you could. Depending on the boats value, might I suggest you look into a good used stern drive?

drive shaft and gimbal bearing quendry

There has to be some sort of interference fit between the shaft and the gimbal bearing or the the inner bearing race would spin on the shaft. I could tap my bearing on and off the shaft with a copper hammer.

1990 Sea Ray 160, Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one gen 1

1990 Sea Ray 160 BR 3.0L came with a 14 X 19 prop from the factory. That or a 17" would be my choices depending on usage and load. My 1995 175 BR 3.0LX came with a 21" from the factory. 15" pitch is just nuts. My opinion only.

    4.3 MPI Possible ECM issues

ECT has a temperature Vs resistance chart. MAT is a thermister. MAP outputs a voltage. IAC should be the same. TPS is for sure. One should be able to test/measure most of the sensors on it with a DVOM and a way to measure frequency. "I am leaning towards a fualty ECM but that's just a hunch...
