    2006 Johnson 9.9hp need help…

Unfortuneately I know nothing about your particular model but I am confused about your problem. You say that the motor runs full out, all the time, but you have confirmed that the throttle butterfly opens and closes properly? So with the throttle butterfly fully closed your motor is still...

Asking Open AI How to Change Impeller on 5.5Hp Johnson

I did follow up by asking it how to disconnect the shift rod on a 1961 5.5Hp Johnson Outboard and it got a lot worse. It was hard to tell precisely where the answer was going but I think it thought the disconnect was between the lower unit and the midsection, like it is on many other motors...

Asking Open AI How to Change Impeller on 5.5Hp Johnson

I have changed this impeller a couple times but for kicks I thought I would ask this new artificial intelligence (AI) the question on how to change this impeller. Below is my question and the answer Open AI gave. Not bad. Left out the issue of removing the powerhead and the water intake hose...

    1982 Johnson 9.9 water pump

It has to move gears to push back up so as Crosbyman said, try moving the flywheel while pushing on the motor and if that does not work, move the prop. When the gears align properly it should go back up.

1982 Johnson 7.5hp Backfires but No Start (Wrong Carb?)

You said, after switching the plug wires, that she started right up and ran for about 2 minutes and died and you could not restart it. Have you tried restarting it since? When a motor is about to die like that it is a good policy to squeeze the primer bulb again to see if the motor revives...

Any idea why they suggest that you remove the prop?

    General Information on Carburetors

For most on this board a video on how a carburetor works will not add much to your knowledge level but it is rare to be able to see all that theory working in a clear and precise view. This video shows a homemade carb, built with see through components, running an engine while being filmed...

    76 Johnson 15 HP

Not sure how you are determining spark but that model of motor is notorious for fouling spark plugs. Should use NGK plugs, B6HS are the best. B7HS will work. Don't use that motor for trolling or you will be replacing your spark plugs every 3 or 4 hours.

LU Drain Seals-1990 15 Hp Evinrude

Yeah. It is probably an O-ring inside the screw. If I used the nylon type gasket it would leave the screw offset and not flat with the motor on the outside. The parts list talks about screws with gaskets and also talks about O-rings as well. I suspect this type of screw I have on this...

LU Drain Seals-1990 15 Hp Evinrude

So I bought this motor at the beginning of this season and want to replace the lower unit oil to prepare for next year. When I drained the oil, by removing the drain screws, I noticed that they did not have any washers on the drain screws or left in the screw hole. In the picture on the...

1991 15 HP Evinrude pull start model

Isn't that annoying. The back seat on my older Springbok tin boat is also too close to my 1990 15Hp motor now, but never had a problem with older motor models. In other words the tiller handle is too long on these motors now. I have to remember to bend the tiller handle up before I tilt the...

    1968 ish Johnson please help!!

I don't know anything about your particular motor but if you spray starter fluid into the carb and you get it to fire temporarily, while it burns through the starter fluid, then you most likely have narrowed down your problem to a fuel problem as opposed to your problem being related to spark or...

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

So problem #2 above, of the throttle slowing down on its own when you remove your hand from the tiller, has been solved. Racer's suggestion of needing part # 174741 appeared to be the best approach. I did not want to cut into the material covering my throttle cable under the tiller, so as to...

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

OK thanks. I imagine the spring is critical to its performance? I don't have one on mine so I will probably have to buy another pawl just to get a spring.

What does that red starter pawl do?

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

No problem. I will get that figured out. One more issue that I hope just requires a quick confirmation from a knowledgeable outboard user of my model vintage. I also noticed that someone has changed the orientation of my starter pawl (the red piece). Mine is the 1rst picture on the left and...

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

Do you remember if that part had the "slow, start, fast" indicators on it like the 327944 Throttle Control Plate does? I am trying to understand how the part works and if it goes over the 327944, under it, or completely replaces it and if it would stop my throttle from moving on its own or not.

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

On my tiller picture above I can read the part number on the underside of it and it appears I have the 327944 Throttle Control Plate. Looking at the 174741 design it almost looks like it might just go over top of it or maybe it replaces it or maybe it does not fit "non-select models". I will...

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

Can that throttle friction control just be added to a motor that does not have one currently? Will it tighten up the throttle so it does not change on its own?

    Link & Sync 1990 15Hp Evinrude

I think you are talking about the idle stop control. My problem is when I am running at very high speeds (WOT) the throttle just slows down, if I remove my hand from the twist grip. I can't see how the idle stop control for trolling would prevent this. Does it?
