    Yep, it is crimped with a 12731 collar clamp. Part sells for less than three bucks but the pneumatic clamp tool is probably six hundred.

    Anybody know what this is?

    I had something similar on a boat years ago. The actual rod holders slipped into them and the star shape let you change the angle depending how you placed them in. Not exactly the same as both the bases and the holders were plastic but the same idea.

    Back when I taught boating classes I made a point to never swim from a non anchored inflatable since the wind can take one a lot faster than a person can swim. I never thought to mention current figuring most people would think that would be unwise.

    I can remember around 1944-46 helping my Dad straighten nails he recovered from packing crates. During WWII you just didn't go to the hardware store and buy nails. Didn't mind straightening nails as much as I missed having sugar for my morning cereal back then.
