    Finally Had To Retire It

Thanks Jerry. But like I said in my post there comes a limit to where you can keep one of these old Chryslers running anymore. The powerhead has already had the cylinders punched to the limit so it would have to be sleeved for another rebuild. The bad water pump housing was a cause and effect...

    Finally Had To Retire It

There comes a time when something, no matter how good it once was, has to be retired when service parts are hard to get. That's the point I finally reached with my old 1985 Chrysler Force 50. I had converted the breaker plate to a pair of Ford points that work in it - it's almost impossible to...

    Points Conversion to CDI

As a side note, I think those points fit all the twin-cylinder battery-ignition Chrysler and Force outboards up to 55hp equipped with an alternator. But the non-alternator engines in those same hp ratings used a different set of points IIRC.

    Points Conversion to CDI

Jerry, that is no kidding about eBay! I just need both sets of points, quantity (2) of Chrysler part # F12329-2. I think maybe Sierra also made these at one point, but I don't know what the Sierra part # was. My condensors are fine, just the rubbing blocks on the points are worn out. I got a...

    Points Conversion to CDI

Thanks. Yeah, after looking around I'd need the flywheel, stator, trigger, the whole works. I guess there's nothing actually wrong with the battery points ignition other than Chrysler designed the cam lobe so it holds the points open most of the time so they got 30 deg of dwell. They did that...

    Points Conversion to CDI

That requires the stator too, right? IIRC those are AC-fired.

    Points Conversion to CDI

I have a 1985 Force 50, battery ignition with breaker points. Does anybody know of a suitable DC-CDI ignition unit that I can adapt to work on these engines? I realize I'll have to replace the old coils with CDI coils and probably have to drill and tap the breaker plate to mount hall effect...

    Wisconsin title.

Glad you got it sorted out, but for future reference no, you don't in Wisconsin. The legal owners of the boat are shown on the title, but only if it is longer than 16 feet. Boats less than 16ft don't even have a title. If there is a POA involved they sign it by printing the owner's name then "by...

    What am I looking at?

I would not weld on that boat. Fix cracked bulkheads with riveted plate and angle. Get rid of all the foam out of the boat and steam clean the hull with aluminum acid wash. Then fill the keel with Marine-Tex epoxy from the inside. The keel don't go all the way to the stern on Alumacraft Pad V...

Force 50 Foam in the Reeds

I had a 507F5A come in late this afternoon on a pontoon that had quit. The foam insulation inside the cover deteriorated, fell down and got shredded by the flywheel. That stuff ended up getting sucked in the carb and into the reeds. The reeds were literally packed with it. I would recommend...

    Trolling Motor Circuit Protection

There was another thread on using circuit breakers for trolling motors. But that got closed because somebody asked a question on an old thread. The post is pasted here: Yes, dragging up an old thread, but this is the same situation I am in, except I am one step further into it. I have a 14'...

    1985 Force 50 Skeg Repair

The skeg on our '85 Force 50 had been cracked for quite awhile and it broke yesterday afternoon and ended up in the bottom of the lake someplace. I could not find a replacement stainless steel one online to fit the lower unit on the 40/50. It was broke almost to the lower bolt hole on the...

    Force 50

Yes, that's right in the ballpark for a 10 x 11 prop with no special rigging. We have the same engine on an Alumacraft Pro 17 with a CMC power tilt and trim that moves the engine back and allows raising it so the anti-ventilation plate is above the keel and ventilates the prop on plane. So I...
