Need advice for deterring black bears!

I'm having unusually frequent encounters with black bears this year. I have a bear resistant trash can that they constantly try to get into. Does anyone have any tips?

    Electric Trailer Jack?

Time is rapidly approaching to replace my manual trailer jack. I recently replaced my manual winch with an electric model and mounted a tender battery behind the winch post, so I would have a ready power source for an electric jack. Who else has one or has any experiences of them to share?

Would You Join A Boat Club?

I have owned boats individually for years...perhaps part of it is the feeling you get when you're draggin the wagon down the street past all the other "unfortunate" non-owners. A few years back, while travelling, I came across an ad in a local rag touting the advantages of a boat club...

    Oh great...NOW my generator works!

Pulled the portable generator out of the shed last Sunday to prepare for possible use as the forecast for Debby was to linger here for days. The dadgum thing would not crank! It's Sunday and no stores that might carry rebuild parts are open. Oh well, hope the power holds out. Today, folks...

Adjustible height ball hitch cures retrieval issues

Reading about folks having troubles retrieving their boats got me to looking into the issue. There seems to be a pretty direct correlation to the ramp slope. Too little slope and the boat hits the trailer at a low angle causing the trailer to be backed farther down the ramp to allow the bow to...

    Dolphins in the bay

We were lounging in the bay yesterday when quite a few dolphins rolled by. These buggers are tough to get with a pic so I shot a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmjsizSCzUU

What unusual things does your pet do that makes you chuckle?

Meet Buddy, my soon-to-be two year old domestic longhair cat... He does two things that make me chuckle. First, he insists on beginning every morning with a hop into my lap to "chew" (I think it's a nursing thing) on my right index finger. It's only my right index finger, too. I've offered...

VHF Transmit indicator says it's working, but is it?

I admit having zero electrical experience or acumen and also must admit to delay in determining this apparent fault in my VHF. Since acquiring the boat I have monitored channel 22 for traffic but never actually performed a radio check until this past weekend. I can hear the traffic but, when I...

Thought I'd share my recently completed project

Had been a 20'x30' concrete patio with a skinny stairway leading to a single door going into the laundry...UGH... Now a completely screened atrium coming off the new double door from the dining room. Ceiling-mounted flat screen w/ dual zone surround sound (inside and outside), a few...

    Calling all Enrolled Agents

I received a call from someone saying they were with the IRS and they needed to verify some information. Every other time I have been in communication with them it has been in writing. Is this something the IRS would do?

Who else lives in a FUDS?

Got a letter from the Army Corps of Engineers..."Our records indicate that your property is within a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) known as Camp Gordon Johnston...Please be aware that military munitions could still be present. These could be dangerous and may not be easily recognizable"...

    Inductive Volt Meter?????????????

My total knowledge of electrical issues will fit nicely under your fingernail. I have some wire locations that are impossible to get a standard lead to the connection to test for voltage. I know there are inductive timing lights. Is there such thing as an inductive meter:confused:

    Thanks, iboat peeps!

Started my morning routine as usual...go online, read the news feeds, check/reply to email, then surf iboats for a few minutes. As I had no real pressing plans, I took my time on iboats....reply here....reply there....and it's now 4:30 pm. Wow...I spent the whole day thoroughly entertained by...

I've made the decision to convert to an electric winch...it'll be here in 2 days. Are there any special considerations when installing? I purchased a Powerwinch Model 912 here on iboats.
