    4.3 crankshaft/housing oil leak - next steps?

Thanks Scott. I have isolated the drip from under the crankshaft a seen in the photo. no oil above, none below. That drip is coming from the block side, right in the center of the shaft. Looks like seals to me, but I've read that seals are unlikely source. I cannot get a better view in that...

    4.3 crankshaft/housing oil leak - next steps?

greetings all. found oil in the bilge and isolated it to the crankshaft seal or housing. Does not appear to be an oil pan issue. I found no obvious corrosion around the housing (from what I can reach). Lost about 3 oz of oil after a 3-day weekend - running ~ 8-12 hours at various speeds...

Engine hour meter clicks with ignition on, but engine not running

I’ve got 3. Off, on, and start. I don’t leave it “on” when at anchor. I typically only have it “on“ when the engine is running. i was testing gauges with the ignition on, on the trailer, w/o the engine running, just to see if I got different results when ignition was “on” vs “off”. I...

Engine hour meter clicks with ignition on, but engine not running

This doesn't seem correct. Fuel gauge pinned full w/o power

while I was at it, I tested the trim gauge, which hasn't been working for years. Grounding out the S terminal dropped the needle, so I think the gauge is working. Will troubleshoot senders, next.

Fuel gauge pinned full w/o power

thanks for all the suggestions. With the battery disconnected, I suspected that it wasn't a grounding issue. I tested the gauge first and confirmed that it is kaput. Will replace, and test the sender if necessary.

Fuel gauge pinned full w/o power

Hello, my fuel gauge is pinned past full with or without power, ignition or disconnected battery. I’ve checked all the wiring and found no corrosion or loose wires. does a pinned gauge indicate a bad gauge? thanks. 1999 Stingray 190LX 2004 Mercruiser 4.3L 225hp 4bbl Quicksilver repower...

Rubberized or Epoxy undercarriage roll on for salt water trailer?

Thanks everyone. 1991 boat 2nd trailer - now 10 years old. Ive kept the “investment” to a minimum be and will continue on that plan. buying a new trailer isn’t an option. Elbow grease and a couple cans of primer and paint are. life’s not perfect, but this will buy me a couple more years. cheers!

Rubberized or Epoxy undercarriage roll on for salt water trailer?

Im not looking for perfect, just better. And, I’m not skimping on prep work. I was looking to see if others regretted a bed liner coating, or which brands are preferred.

Rubberized or Epoxy undercarriage roll on for salt water trailer?

I already wire brushed, flap disk sanded and used Rust remover on all the rust. the point of the rubberized coating is to fill those gaps so they don't fill with salt water, again. thanks

Rubberized or Epoxy undercarriage roll on for salt water trailer?

Hey all, I'm considering coating my saltwater trailer with an undercarriage roll on, 1) to better protect from dings, which always result in rust and peeling paint, 2) to seal cracks between fender components (which always rust out), and 3) better foot traction (especially on steps/fenders)...

4.3 how to remove thermostat/sleeve from housing

I realized I did this about 10 years ago and found all the deets in my message history. I've ordered replacements and will wrench it out carefully, since a new sleve comes with the kit. thanks.

4.3 how to remove thermostat/sleeve from housing

While flushing on muffs, I noticed my temp rising and falling based on RPM. It's usually very stable, so I decided to remove and test the thermostat. Housing was removed without issue, but the sleeve and thermostat are stuck. I can't remember if these slid in and out easily when I replaced...

4.3 Replacing exhaust manifolds - ditch nylon drain plugs?

I've read that nylon tape should not be used with nylon to steel fittings, because the material can bunch and prevent a proper seal. PTFE sealant is better for NPT threads because it is free to fill and expel. I also read: "The right way to assemble a threaded plastic joint is to finger...

4.3 Replacing exhaust manifolds - ditch nylon drain plugs?

I’m replacing the exhaust manifolds and elbows that I previously replaced in 2013. All has been fine except for a cracked nylon drain fitting… fixable, but a real pain. I read about changing that fitting to a 3/4” NPT brass elbow fitting, but stuck with the nylon. Now, i’m installing a...

I decided to return it. A new (rebuilt) carb should not required this much work ;)

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

I have the original OEM pump. its never shown signs of failure, but I'm allowing for the possibility that the OEM was in fact originally 4-6psi, and the aftermarket are 9-10 psi (specifically for marine use), and my pump may have increased in pressure (to exactly 9.3psi). All the carbs state...

a carburetor shouldn't spill fuel like this, right?

I installed a fuel regulator, which brought the pressure to under 6psi. It still flooded on one side. I contacted the seller and agreed to inspect. I disassembled and tested the floats, seats and needles. Everything seems operational. Both floats held pressure when manually closed...

Need help locating 4-6psi fuel pump for 4.3 w/ 4bbl carb

already on its way. i just want To know why more people aren’t running into this problem with replacement pumps? Are their 4bbl carbs more tolerant? a max of 6psi at the carb seems to be well established as a limit on the float/needle. I can’t justify dropping $630 just to see if my OE pump...
