Getting old and losing friends sucks

My friends and I were always really good about keeping in close touch. Phone, texting, email and internet helped a lot. I keep in daily touch with my daughter as well. But sometimes, time just runs out. 😐 My remaining old guy buddy (I'm 71 and he's 74) have known each other for 44 years...

    Faceplant into a floor jack

Yeah, I carry my phone with me everywhere I go, "just in case." I was lucky that my wife had hers within earshot this time. Most times she doesn't. :sneaky: For me, it's a risk to do any work alone. But, ya gotta do whut ya gotta do. 🙃

    Faceplant into a floor jack

Yes, I was able to get up after I rested a minute or so. I was able to move to the nearby portable air tank and used that to help lever myself up. It wasn't easy or painless, but I got it done. Then I sat my butt down. :sneaky: At 71 years old, I was being as careful as I could while in...

    Faceplant into a floor jack

Thanks guys. :) I'd tripped over a cable or hose and fell. On the way down, I stuck out my right hand to stop myself and injured that, then fell onto the floor jack, hitting the right side of my face onto the saddle, then whomped down on my right shoulder. Fortunately, my eyeglasses mostly...

    Faceplant into a floor jack

Definitely wasn't a great way to start my day yesterday morning. :cautious:

    Lake temp

If you just want surface temp, a handheld laser thermometer will work. They're pretty cheap too.

Getting old and losing friends sucks

I'm down to just one friend left who's an old guy like me. And he lives over 1,000 miles away. We haven't seen each other for 7 years, but do keep in close touch.

    89 Mercury Classic 50 won’t open up

For my 1985 50hp, I bought a new wiring harness for less than $40 and also bought all new coil wires as well. The stuff that was on there was old and the new parts made a big difference.

    Manual jack plate starting height

The boat my manual JP came from was a bass boat. (I'd post a pic, but you know.) The owner said that it was typically only himself on board, rarely two. And both sitting side by side at the console. The owner also told me that he routinely pushed 70MPH with the boat and loved how...

    Manual jack plate starting height

I read about that tricky driving part, which also influenced my decision to delete the plate. Some guys said that it could get really squirrelly at speed; something I definitely don't want to worry about.

    Manual jack plate starting height

Yes, my jack plate was free.

Not in the budget. As usual. :sneaky:

    Manual jack plate starting height

Thanks for the answers guys. After reading more, especially over at screamandfly, I've decided that I'm going to remove the jack plate and mount the engine directly to the transom. I just don't want to hassle with a lot of adjustments, especially with a manual jack plate. Some of the guys...

    Another Maine Starchief

Glad to see you're back. Health issues suck and several of us know about those. :p The pic upload problem is a known issue that the Admins are working on.

    Manual jack plate starting height

I just started setting up a manual jack plate that came with a donor boat & 150HP Mercury XR6 engine that I bought. The donor was a bass boat and my boat is an aluminum V-hull fish 'n' ski with no pad. The jack plate has a 4" set back. I've not splashed the boat since the repower and I'm a...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

This morning my wife and I got the jack plate lowered as far as it will go, but that still makes the AV plate 2" above the bottom of the hull. That may or may not be a good starting point, so I'll have to start a research thread about it. I sure wish I could upload some pix. :sneaky:

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

Sorry, guys. There's an intermittent site problem which prevents us from uploading pix. I'll keep trying, but in the meantime, I'll just say what I did this morning. I got first measurements of the engine and boat heights above the concrete floor, so that I can set the jack plate to a...
