Drilling vent holes in a prop

Mercury already has vented propellers and various sized hole 'plugs' to fine tune performance. Might be a better approach vs. the guess-work of a drill press.

    Is A I a totally unreliable function ?

When there is a lack of "NI" (Natural Intelligence), the world must turn to AI (Artificial Intelligence). :ROFLMAO: Of course AI is not new, it is just much more evolved. I recall working with basic AI systems for decision making back in the 1990's . . . back then it was essentially...

Bravo 3 Prop selection - other options?

Mercury has a prop selector tool that can get you in the ballpark . . . maybe within a pitch or 2 . . . https://www.mercurymarine.com/us/en/propellers/mercury-propeller-selector

Found some rocks with my prop...

What worked in the past has a good probability of working in the future. I'd get the same prop and call it good.

Bravo 3 Prop selection - other options?

What makes you think that the current prop set is not right for your boat? What is on your boat now and what is your maximum RPM and speed? Playing prop sets on a B3 gets expensive.

    Mercruiser 5.0 MPI hydro locked

Could be intake manifold or cylinder heads, if the exhaust side checks out OK. I know the 7.4's had some issues with rust-through around the valve guides, not sure about the 5.0 engines. Your profile says that you are from Plymouth, MA . . . I'm assuming it is salt water boating. If the...

The banner message went away for some reason. It is back now. Still trying to get this resolved. Stay tuned. :)

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

In similar discussions from the past few years, I had roughly figured that battery power storage technology needed to increase by about 5X to be on par with fossil fuel on a power/pound sort of basis. So, if the 30 minute run time could go to 150 minutes, then it may have some possibilities...

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

As I was headed out to my boat the other day, I noticed an unusual boat at the dock . . . It had twin outboard engines that looked like they were from a sci-fi movie . . . had an illuminated blue stripe on the rear cowl and the name 'Flux' on them  . . . but I could not see the flux...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Good question . . . If I do fiberglass, I can potentially make the bracket a hull extension spanning across a greater width of the transom's irregular shape; basically going to/near the inside of the trim tabs. If I do aluminum, it would be more feasible to make it as a bracket, just...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Because . . . :ROFLMAO: Actually, I have a plan in mind to make an exacting fit to the odd-shaped transom area. IMO, it would be much easier done in fiberglass than aluminum. I tend to agree that the Coosa would probably be better because of the fiber content . . . and I can get it locally. (y)

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Quick Update . . . The Admiral and I discussed the $$,$$$ for the outboard conversion. She is OK with it, given the alternative cost of a sell/buy approach. I am doing a little bit of materials research. . . If I build a hull extension/bracket out of fiberglass, I'd use fiberglass over foam...

New study on tow boat environmental impact

Never really thought about the underwater impact of wake boats, but it is not really an ocean waters thing. Really stirs up the mud, based on the videos. There was one person in our harbor who had a Matercraft wake boat . . . They kept it only for a couple of years . . . Probably did not do...

    LiFePO Batteries ???

I've installed the third LiFePO4 battery to the house bank. Fortunately, I had all 3 batteries within 0.03 volts of one another just prior to the installation (13.39 - 13.42 volts). So, hopefully they will be happy as a group. After a day at the mooring with solar charging, all seems good...

    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

Well the special bolt that holds the choke plate and spring in place snapped off in the carburetor housing. I think it had been weakened from prior work by the PO. Anyway, I used the carburetor from my ‘69 motor. Hopefully, the motor will cold start better with the other carburetor. So, far...

How/where do I find part numbers?

My recollection on fuel tank (and other tank) senders is that there are 2 ohms scales . . . USA and European, so you want to make sure you are matching what the gauge is expecting to see for resistance. Google/AI states: "For the standard American version sender (240-30 ohms), you will have...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

As far as outboard brands . . . Mercury? Yamaha? Suzuki? Which would you choose and why?

    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

Not yet . . . :ROFLMAO: But it may be a consideration over the winter. My (defunct) '69 model was re-built (by me) about 8-10 years ago. So, the top bearing/seal assembly that I swapped over was in decent shape. Overall the engine could use a re-fresh.
