    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Who wouldda thunk, resin PB as a desert topping :ROFLMAO: Anyway . . . I have been doing the really boring stuff . . . rounding corners, sanding, etc. Fillets come next. I assume that with the PB and frosting bag, I should mix it in small batches, as it will tend to harden-up as I go. My...

    Strange exhaust behavior during winterizing

Your engine probably can hold upwards of 5 gallons of liquid in the cooling system. If you drain the system and want to fill it with AF, it is best to fill it manually via the thermostat housing and the hoses to the exhaust manifolds.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I cut the web holes . . . I need to get something for the stiffeners. . There are quite a few corners that I should probably add the rounded fillets . . . Anyone got tips/tricks for making fillets.

Glue . . . Probably best to read through some of the earlier posts. This may help.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Back on topic . . . I've been toying with the idea of web holes in the 3 girder-like stringers in the extension pod. This is what I came up with . . . . . There is the one 'center stringer' and two 'engine aligned' stringers (one either side of the center stringer). Since these stringers are...

Imma sand with 100 grit once I get the paint off. There is also an epoxy barrier coat that I can see under the paint.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I got the transom pieces cut . . . they are loosely attached for now, as are the planing surface pieces. It sort of looks like the 3D model ? . I have to box in the chine strakes. In the 3D model I had them with no reverse chine. As built, I gave them a bit of lift. (arrows) ...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Check point on the weight . . . The Coosa actually used (not what was bought) comes in at about 140 lbs. I'll probably cut some web holes for accessibility . . . weight savings would be minimal (20 lbs +/-). I did see that the rigging conduits come in 2" and 2.5" . . . So I'll plan on the 2.5".

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Like the Titanic had ? :ROFLMAO: Yes, . . . as a matter of fact, the CY 338 OB version actually has 'covers' over the openings to the bracket. Not sure how water tight they are, but they look to be OK for a rapid flood event.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

A few more progress pictures and some questions . . . I have the transom pieces to cut-out today and then focus on gussets and stiffeners, most of which I'll pre-form and add after the initial fiberglass layer. Questions Du Jour: Rigging tubes . . . Inside diameter (ID) ? 2" . . . 3" ...

How long does it take to change power heads

I'm going to lock this thread for now . . . The OP has not posted additional information, and the dialog has taken on a life of its own, and not in a good way. @stopngo , please reach out to a Moderator if you have additional information and want to re-open the thread.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Covered in a few places in this thread, but to summarize . . . Boat looses about 500 lbs of weight. CoB (center of balance (CoG) moves back about 9". The buoyancy added by the extension pod will raise the stern (at rest) about 2.5". No additional fuel tanks . . . The best place for fuel...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Hole-y extension pod . . . I got the access holes cut. There will be 4 additional holes closer to the transom for accessing the engine mount through-bolts. Probably going to order the deck plates before cutting those holes for an assured fit. . . . . I think my bod will fit through the...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I have great ambitions of loosing 20 lbs. before boat launch. I like the rounded corners idea (y). . . came up with this . . . 5" radius corners. . . . they look like they will retain decent strength at the corners. Probably will be big enough for me. The purple lines are where a 4"...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

It seems like winter has arrived . . . 37˚F today  I have started to map out the access holes, which will be at the transom face and the top plate which mates to the underside of the swim deck. For the transom . . . I was initially thinking that 18" diameter would be OK, but...
