Had a miss develop. Cdi, stator, rectifier and trigger replaced with NOS components. All wire colors went to where they were.

Runs good now without misfiring.

A bit confused when I went to check the timing and the timing light shows the marks on the flywheel are on the back side of the engine.

The flywheel only goes on one way with the Wilson Key on the crankshaft.

Not really sure what may be amiss. Maybe the replacement stator, cdi, or the trigger had opposite side wires wrong.

Any thoughts or ideas? Thinking i could try to swap stator leads, trigger leads or ignition leads with plug wire swap.

With timing out by 180 degrees the motor would not run.
That's what I would think as well. Been on the lake twice with it, since the change. Will pull the flywheel when I have time and check the key on the crank to make sure it's not sheered off.

Would a flipped stator caused this? If it's anything like my '85 85HP, it would be virtually impossible to bolt it up 180* out due to wire lengths, but I don't know if the 50hps are any different.

Had to replace the stator on mine this weekend, and had a pause moment when I realized the symmetric bolt pattern could make it very easy to bolt that thing up 90* out of position, more so if the stator was new and the wires hadn't taken a set yet and the only clue I had for up/down was witness marks under the screw heads on the used parts

So, the key in the crank wasn't broken. Flywheel was on the key when I removed it.

Compared the pics of the old stator off and the new one. It's installed correctly.

Trigger can only go on one way. CDI, Stator and trigger are the OEM part numbers, The leads and colors all match up.

Put the flywheel back on and tested with the timing light and the marks with the light are exactly at the back of the engine.

At a loss here. Tomorrow after.work will swap the coil leads from the CDI and the plug wires and see if it makes a difference.

Being as how this motor is a 2 cylinder , the two cylinders will be 180° apart and for whatever reason you are timing off the wrong cylinder so it will indicate that the timing is 180° out . It may well be that the new stator is miss-wired .......I just had a new pulse coil that had the colour coded wires transposed ....caused me no end of grief until I thought WTF and chopped the wires and went blue to green and green to blue ....I even bought a new cdi 🤬.
Anyhow if the motor runs I wouldnt loose any sleep over it ....if the timing really was out it would be 180° out and , as above , it just wouldnt run ....at all .... go boating :):)

Thanks for the advice. I Agree. Go boating and fishing. :):)

A couple of weeks ago, I visually confirmed the wiring colors matched on both the new stator and trigger where they atrached before I put them in. Cdi is a closed unit, so not much to confirm on it. Just that it had the same colors and connectors. That's where I think the wires might be swapped.

Marked the prop and took It out fishing 2 weeks ago. Max speed was 8 mph, with and got only about 2800 rpms. Misfire was gone, and the prop had slipped, but never fully slipped and maxed the rpms.

Found a used prop at the same size x pitch, and ran it this last weekend. Went to check the timing prior to taking the boat out and found it 180 from where it should be. Ran better at slow speeds, but slipped completely at 5-1/2 mph.

Found a new prop (not used), that is 10x10 pitch instead of 11, which should be here Saturday. Couldn't find one that fit to match the 10-3/8x11-3/8. Planning to go out on Sunday to test it. Will see how it goes.
