I may try this, I think I should put the trap near the boat but probably not on it. I don't want them to think I opened a restaurant.
Start outside, but you will need more than one, and move them often. Rodents soon learn where they are located. You should have one or two inside to catch any that make it inside. To clear them all out, you will need a good month of regular diligence setting traps and rebaiting everyday. After the family is gone, you will need to keep traps set to catch visitors.

I built a wood box with a slide open top, put a rat trap inside. The opening was just big enough for them to get about half way in. Nailed around six of them. Haven’t had an issue since.

Our camper shed is next to the pole barn. I keep our boat in the pole barn. Uncle Gus is a great mouse deterrent. Put about 6 throughout the camper. I keep the boat covered (do a lot of dust generating activities) and threw a couple Uncle Gus pouches in the boat for winter storage. Not sure how it works with larger rodents, but we never had an issue with them. We live in the woods and no rodent problem and the squirrel population has definitely grown this year. We used to have a bird feeder next to the barn which drew a lot of mice. When we moved that away from the barn, there was a marked reduction in mice. I keep a 5 gallon bucket mouse trap in the barn and rarely get a mouse anymore. The squirrel give us too much entertainment to get rid of them!

You must mean Grandpa Gus. Wrong family member. Lol The only thing that works is traps. All the deterrents are a waste of money. I've had mice tear apart the packets and use the shredded paper for nests. It just makes their homes smell good.... I've tried it in an rv, snowmobiles and a mailbox, yes, a mailbox. They all laughed at them.....

My favorite squirrel trap is an old mossburg 20 gauge with 6 shot. My neighbors leave for a couple months after Christmas I get busy culling the squirrels then. A red squirrel shows on the peninsula I have the green light to cull immediately.

My favorite squirel, chipmunk, rat, and any other pest that needs eliminated is my precision high powered air rifle. Easy targets out to 40-50 yards. I like the quiet part, most neighbors and other critters are not scared off from the loud noise of a firearm...
