I can confirm the plugs are a couple years old, but the wires are older, and one, I found has a cracked boot. That’ll be the place to start. Fuel and filters are good, timing is dead nuts and holds steady. Spark is nice and strong but last I checked compression is a little low at 115-120, but...
Over the last year or two I’ve noticed a random mis at idle. It doesn’t usually start happening until the engine warms up, but then will happen every 2-5 seconds. As I idle up, it will become more pronounced. But if I get about 2500 RPM it becomes terrible to the point the tachometer bounces all...
Scott thank you for the advice.
As for the tank, scetchy is my middle name, 😆 I don’t expect it will last forever. But it WILL keep me on the water for a while. Damn shame Mercury made that magnet unserviceable, so it’s nearly $300 for a replacement.

Looks like a faulty oil sensor was the cause of the beeps. Thanks for the help 😉 still looking for diagrams…
Also need some help tuning carbs. I’ve seen a great video on link n sink but nothing on carb adjustment- idle mix…
I am trying to do some maintenance on this 1994 pro series mercury 60, I’m seeing a lot of misinformation or missing information for fuel filter filters, fuel line sizes, location of different components; is there somewhere where I can look to find all this? I need electrical diagrams and part...
As for the status of the transom, I can’t say; but I did find the source of my “water”. Turns out one of my trim lines running back under the gimbal had a pin hole and was pushing out foamy W30. The bilge has oil all over it. So now I’m on the hunt for replacement lines.
Thank you all. Good thoughts. Bondo, yes, there is a bolt missing at the flywheel cover. It went missing years ago and I just never put it back.
The boat is an ‘81 sea sprite. I check the hull every year for damage, though she lives in dry storage so rot would seem odd at this point. No flexing...
I’m really not sure what to make of this. Running on the muffs in the driveway I have what appears to be water dripping down the transom. I checked around hoses and the exhaust and didn’t see any signs of water. In theory that should be the only place water could be coming from unless there’s...
Update and finale’ here! Found the heated air choke hose to be broken. Carb was sucking in extra air for who knows how long. Took care of that and the tach issue vanished. Still need to make some minor adjustments to the carb but all issues are now resolved. Thanks everyone for the help
