    Faria Voltmeter repair possible?

The needle on the voltmeter (Faria part no VP7063A) on my 2001 Bayliner 175 is sticking, probably due to moisture. Can it be disassembled (and reassembled) for repair, or is it shot, and I so, where could I get a replacement at a reasonable price please?

This is one reason you lower the out drive...

Failing that, whenever you crank your drive up to the trailer position remove the ignition key and hang it on the throttle lever.

The Supertech has anti foam agents - says so on the bottle. Also, the issue with foam isn’t to do with any pressure increase, its to do with the breakdown of the oil film which the air in the foam causes. If you have a sealed gear case containing 1 l of oil and 50cm3 of air, the volumes remain...

Out to lunch Gear Oil Prices

To add: Just been looking at a bottle of Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube and a bottle of Walmart Supertech EP80/90 oil. The Quicksilver is to spec API GL-4, and the Supertech is to API GL-5. Castrol has this to say about the different specs: API GL-4 – Intended for gear sets with light...

Regarding this idea that any water in the gear oil will show at the lower drain / fill plug, I’ve tried that and seem to have been ok. However having just had my Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 apart to replace some oil seals, I note that there’s only a very narrow, rather long passage between the...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive ratio?

Thanks all. I checked my lower unit this morning, just for interest, as I didn't doubt any of the pros on here for a moment. 1 rotation of the drive shaft made 1/2 rotation of the prop shaft, therefore 1:2.00 / 1:1.98.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive ratio?

Thanks. The drive shaft has 'A' stamped on it, and since Ive just had the drive apart, both top gears have 24 teeth. Ive found @Bondo's tables in the Adults Only section, and it seems there's 2 possible combinations for the A1G2 drive, either 1.62:1 or 2.00:1 for the gears both to have 24...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive ratio?

Im sure this has been asked / answered before, but Ive had a look and cant see an answer to my specific question. What is the drive ratio in my Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive, coupled to a 3.0l Mercruiser engine? Year 2000, Engine No OL634881, cant find the drive No, is it stamped on somewhere?

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Drive shaft housing oil seal compatibility.

So Ive now ended up with a choice of the old style 2 separate seals and the newer 2 seals in one standard; Ill have a look later and see which I like the look of best, but Ill probably use the 2 separate seals. When disassembling the top cover of the drive shaft housing, all the bolts were...

    3.0 Mercruiser

I once had a car which did exactly as your boat is doing. After trying all sorts, I eventually arrived at the fuel tank pick up, and the pick up pipe, which was positioned too close to the bottom of the tank, with end being cut at an angle such that the end of the pipe would suck itself flat...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 seal location

Does the thin section o ring which seals the top cover on the driveshaft housing go here, or here? I’m thinking upper location (A), but just want to check to be sure.

Im inclined to agree, but what's the difference then between Quicksilver Premium and High Performance Gear Lube? How about EP additives?

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Drive shaft housing oil seal compatibility.

Hmm, I dont know, Im afraid. I know the engine No (see OP) and the transom No, and the 12 digit boat no, which shows that the boat was built in the year 2000. I know that the original fitment was the 2 separate seals back to back. My question is whether I can use the newer style 1 piece double...

Alpha 1 Gen 2 Drive shaft housing oil seal compatibility.

Ive got to replace the lower (Driven shaft) oil seal on my Alpha 1 Gen 2 Outdrive, Engine no OL 634881. Having disassembled the drive shaft housing, and removed the old seals, Ive discovered that my drive has 2 separate seals installed back to back. The seal kit which I have, part No...
