I have a 1972 merc 800 that is looping and will kill at idle speed. If it is at fast idle it won't kill but still loops. I just replaced the water pump because I took it to the lake and it ran for 4 to 5 min with no water cooling I think. Could this be a blown head gasket from overheating? Also...
Can I swap a 1976 85hp lower unit to a 1972 80hp both motors are mercury inline 4's. ,Also should there be water "peeing" out as soon as I start the 80hp?
