The tedious part has started. Disconnecting all the wiring that goes to the kicker and all the wiring that goes through the transom. The kicker outboard stand is waiting in the garage, but for now, It is impossible to push it through the snow. The plan is to do about one hour of work each day...
That looks impressive. Until now I always just lowered the new transom into its place and went with the holes in the aluminum frame. I don't think that it will be easy to find a thing like that. I just checked the price. Those things cost $700 + change, which is just about the entire budget that...
So I took the the exhaust flap out and it was defective. At first, it looked just fine. There were some small burrs on the the holding bar and I polished those out. But then, I took a closer look at the plate and found a small hole. It was big enough to allow water to penetrate under the rubber...
That is just what I did on my last transom, except that the boat went from garage kept to being in a slip and with all the humidity that comes along with that I just decided that I need to redo the job so I will have no need to worry about rot
This thread is sort of a continuation of a coosa discussion.
I will try to make this a log of transom rebuilding

Ok,thank you all. I guess that takes me back to the drawing board. Oh well, Launch opens in April so there is no hurry.
I will open a wooden transom page.
All this talk about bad bat wings made me wonder a bit. There are exhaust seals/flaps that are supposed to stop the water from rushing up into the engine. My engine has the bat wings, but I never had a problem.
So today I opened up the exhaust and checked the exhaust flaps. They are both...
The Islander is 8 feet wide on the top and it is (if I remember correctly) a bit over 3 feet deep at its center.
The marine 3/4 inch plywood is 10 or 12 ply so the 1.5 inch will give at least 20 ply. I guess I'll go that way. I was under the impression that Coosa does not need any treatment...
Thank you for your answer, you certainly gave me food for thought.
My Starcraft Islander is aluminum.
A 1.5 inch 4by8 26 grade is $582 before shipping , it weighs 120 pounds, but according to AI gluing 2 3/4 inch pieces together makes a stronger board. However, my boat has an I/O so transom...
