    Compression

I have also been researching the best compression tester to buy after learning a lesson about buying a lower end brand. I rented one , an OEM tools brand and it was rather nice and accurate. So many of them pop up on searches claiming to be the best. Both the OEM tools brand and the...

    Compression

Hey salt, I have no clue about how to surface the head other than the easy way of taking it to a machine shop. And is it true about coating the new head gasket with engine oil at install ? Heard that somewhere. This jewel hasn't run on quite a while. It has many new parts and the carbs have...

    Compression

Hey salt, what are you referring to when you say "rarely do those come back". Are you talking about the compression on an old motor after a decarb ?

    Compression

Kinda what I am thinkin too. Once I get er runnin I will do the decarb process then dump a can of sea foam in the tank . Mite just bring the Ole motor back to it's youthful days.

    Compression

There is still a faint fuel residue smell in the lines. Carbs were redone about a year ago.

    Compression

Not really sure but I am guessing between 1-3 years. Leaning more toward the 1.

    Compression

Ok, went and got a higher end compression tester to see if my obviously cheep one was junk. The original readings were all 3 between 70-80. The better guage shows top-115, mid-110, and bottom 120. I assume these numbers are acceptable for a 1977 year motor ?

    Compression

Will a mid 70s 70hp Johnson still run decent with the compression on all 3 cylinders averaging 70 to 80 psi ?

Old humminbird dial flasher inline fuse specs

Yea I have seen some very inexpensive modern day units out there. Just not my thing, yet. I grew up with the old lowrance eagle and the humminbird 60/super60 units. Never had an issue , not one. After every trip out, even if every day , I always remove/removed the unit and stored it...

Old humminbird dial flasher inline fuse specs

Thanks Scott. My old brain cells were leaning toward the way back when memory of it being a 1 amper. Just wasnt sure. I will go with that.

Old humminbird dial flasher inline fuse specs

I can't seem to find any info anywhere about what inline fuse size should be for an old school dial flasher. YES, I HAVE LOOKED IN THE MANUAL and it mentions nothing about that. I seem to possibly remember many years ago on my other units it was maybe a 1 amp, not sure tho. No info anywhere...

Lubricate new water impeller rubber ?

Since our yays and nays pretty much were even, we agreed upon "to each his own" . I take the thin film route, but I am an over doer with just about everything.

Lubricate new water impeller rubber ?

I have seen various methods people use when replacing the water impeller in an older Johnson 60-70hp. Some say they like to apply a tiny film of some kind of slick um to the metal cup and I have heard some say to put er in the cup dry and that the water will.lube it enough. Not so sure...

1977 70 hp johnson thermostat housing gasket

Same here salt. I have some of my most intelligent conversations when I am by myself. And the answers are almost always what I want to hear. I am planning on a compression test today which will determine stopping or continuing this old complete classic boat resurrection process. I have been...

1977 70 hp johnson thermostat housing gasket

Water pump is a fresh one. Don't see any of the used temp parts online anywhere, just new ones for gold prices. Compression test may happen tomorrow, before I start throwing $$$ at it. There are quite a few new parts that were already previously installed. Starter, all 3 coils, plugs...
