I have a Mercury 5 HP outboard (serial# A820444), not sure of the year. The motor gets really hot after a couple of minutes. Then, the motor loses power and dies (on boat). Is it possible that the impeller is bad, even though it pumps water?

My Mercury outboard starts on the first pull, runs great and is pumping water. However, after running for a minute or two it gets very hot and dies. The metal housing on the back of the motor gets so hot, that it sizzles when it gets wet. Suggestions? Thanks!
