Do I need to replace both power packs? I'm confused about which one does what. I thought the starboard power pack supplies spark to the starboard cylinders and the port to the port.

Strong regular arc on both lower cylinders. Not as strong and VERY intermittent arc on both top cylinders. I cleaned the grounds on top coils with no change.

I'm going to have to buy a different tester, mine is not adjustable. NAPA has one; I just need to go to town.

The good news is it didn't run hot. The bad news is it didn't run. Well, it did run, but it bogged down and wouldn't plane. I checked compression, thinking I had done something wrong installing the heads. 100PSI in all four. Where do I go from here?

That's not rust. It's residue from the Ballistol I used to prevent rust while the cylinders were open. There were no signs of a head gasket leak when i removed the heads.

I thought I'd give an update. Still haven't got it in the water. The shower kit came in, and I'm remodeling a bathroom. So goes life.

First off, go for it, I love to see old guys doing stuff. I wish I had known at 18 just what a wildlife biologist did and what the schooling was like. At 64, I don't see it, but I wish I had gone to college. I listen to a podcast every week called Wild Turkey Science, makes me realise I missed...

I've never seen it with an outboard but it makes sense that at higher RPMs the fuel consumption is greater and the trash clogs the strainer faster. Then, after a sit, the debris settles out, and we can go again, for a while.

Before I did anything else, I'd check the screen in the fuel pump.
