I have a 2000 Mercury Optimax 225 XL that keeps revving like WOT upon start-up.
So I've read through the multiple forums and everything lead toward the fuel regulator on the port side. Plus I did a test someone recommended using the schrader valves. I had fuel come out of the air side...
I picked up a boat on an As Is sale. The motor, a 2000 optimax 225xl saltwater starts and idles at about 1000-1100, but I can't get it to accelerate. No engine light on, bUT does work. I think my beeper alarm is broke though. I don't get an initial beep like I think it's supposed to.
Anyway...
Hey guys. I have an Optimax 225 but I can't tell if its a 99 or 2000 model. Is there any way to tell the difference. It is on a 2000 Robalo 2240. But I don't want to assume it's a 2000 motor. It doesn't have a serial number sticker. I have looked at images of both cowls but the 99 I have seen...

1992 Celebrity 200 Cuddy. 5.7l motor, Alpha 1 gen 2 drive. Just bought it. She's a little rough but hoping to have her ready by June 1st.
