EXCELLENT job, Gentlemen. ESGWheel, your bypass suggestion did the trick and she started right up! Yay! Now I have to trace the issue back to see why the Y/R wire is not getting juice. But I am VERY happy that there's no battery or starter issues. It's just electrical, which I can run that down...
Yeah, I didn't think a "regular" battery charger would work, so I won't try that. I'll get some jumber cables from my sister. I'll try that "jumper" wire from the battery to the Y/R terminal (same gauge wire) and see what that reveals.
Okay, so, good call, ESGWheel - I do not have any voltage coming to the Y/R wire/terminal when I turn the key to 'start'. I have full battery voltage to the large red wire/terminal at all times. So I'll have to start working "upstream" and checking wiring and relays along the route. And I need...
Cyclops, I think that is an excellent idea. This boat sat outside in a Maryland parking lot for 2 or 3 years before I bought it. And I have never changed out those cables. I don’t have any jumper cables (my sister, who lives nearby does). Do you foresee any problems with using a battery charger...
As usual I honestly appreciate all of your input. (Except the Seloc manual has been very instrumental over the years, especially with the fuel system and the outdrive!) Anyway, the boat is currently in a storage lot and I'm planning on bring it back to my garage tomorrow to begin work. I will...
So, I've posted several times about my 1994 Four Winns Sundowner 215 and have always received knowledgeable response/critique. The boat has performed very well over the years (5.8 liter EFI) after a fair amount of diagnoses and repairs/replacements. Recently, however, I'm not getting any...
Thanks Scott. I discovered that the "insulating sleeve" and the cable sheathing had both been exposed to extreme heat and had melted somewhat. This was causing the sticking. I did some repairs to both and lubricated the cable and it seems to be performing normally now!
Hello All,
Just wondering if you have any recommendations for lubricants for shift and throttle cables? This is for my 1994 Four Winns Sundowner. I was able to get the shift cable out but was never able to find any markings on it. However, it does work now but just needs to be lubricated.
Thanks!
Hello All.
I am trying to locate the correct shift cable for my 1994 Four Winns Sundowner 215. It has the 5.8L Cobra EFI engine. I have looked on the BRP Parts Catalogs website (great site, BTW) but am unable to locate the shift (or throttle) cable in any of the drawings. Does anyone know that...
Hello All. It's been awhile since I posted. I haven't had my boat in the water for over a year now. I winterized it and "brought it back to life" a couple of months ago - no real issues. However, the engine rpm's fluctuate quite a bit. At idle it runs up close to 3,000, then back down, then back...
Where can I find anti-siphon valves? Mine has corroded severly. It appears to be a 3/8's inch thread into the tank. It is aluminum, but I've seen posts from Lou where he suggests replacing with brass. Any input is appreciated.
Thank you, gentlemen (and women)!
P.S. I did have the Coast Guard Reserve come out to inspect the ship a few weeks before putting her into the water. His input and comments were invaluable. And he passed my boat, affixing an approved "Vessel Safety Check" sticker!
