When I installed the cable I tightened down the end. I believe the procedure is to secure the end so as to allow the cable to twist.
This may have been what caused it to unwind.
That said, I was always skeptical of compressing a twisted cable, and still am.
Would I be able to use a solid core...
1969/70 Mercruiser 120 A1G1.
I was cruising along downstream around 3k RPM when the engine suddenly revved up quite high and speed dropped. I immediately pulled the throttle back to forward detent. Checked gauges and quick look under doghouse and nothing was amiss.
Throtttled back up to 2000...
Alright, figured it out, for the most part.
It does shift into forward. The issue was I had purchased a used Commander shifter and the internal configuration was actuating the throttle as soon as I pushed the lever forward.
Opened the shifter and changed the linkage and throttle does not...
Just checked and the shift rod is engaged with the lever. And with the shift in full forward when I spin the prop by hand it barely ticks.
I did change out the old MercControl for a Commander unit. I adjusted the shifting with the Commander and it was fine in the driveway. But now there isn't...
69 Starcraft w/2.5.
Out of the water the prop locks into gear in both forward and reverse.
In the water it shifts into reverse perfectly.
Shifting into forward nothing happens other than the engine reving. With it in the water, motor running shift cable disconnected, I pushed the lever until...
I replaced the solenoid a year ago which resolved an intermittent issue with trim in general.
I believe that the switch config required trim up and trailer to be depressed at the same time to trailer.
I jumpered the leads at the pump and now I am able to trim up and trailer.
I'll consider the...
I do have a wiring diagram and some of it makes sense.
I think the way it is supposed to work is Trim up uses the switch to stop trim travel, and the Trailer switch bypasses the limiting switch. At least this scenario makes sense to me.
The switch is supposed to be normally closed, however...
Update: When I jumper the two wires at the pump that lead to the switch, closing the circuit, trim up and trim down work. Trailer still doesn't work though.
This is a common issue, however my gear is uncommon and the recommendations don't apply.
69 Star Chief with Mercruiser 120. Unlike later versions, this outdrive has a single (travel limiting?) switch inside the gimbal. As the bell housing rotates up it will contact/depress the switch. Later...
The trick is to determine if the 65532 is interchangeable with the 45514 unit. It looks the same.
I'll have to take detailed photos of mine an compare to these 65532 versions.
Thank for the research on Ebay.
Any thoughts on if this would be compatible with the MC-1 transom plate? I don't really need the gimbal ring or bell housing.
