I found this small metal piece dangling in the bilge, blocking the drain - any idea where it comes from? I can't see anything immediately broken/not working. Aluminum, slightly curved, Mercruiser 3.0.
That's what I thought as well, that's why I find it very weird that replacing the gimbal fixed it. I did not crack open the u-joints but will monitor closely for any noises.
So I took a chance and replaced the gimbal, figured it's much easier to do. I was not really expecting that to fix it, but it did. So weird!
The old gimbal still feels smooth, absolutely no play or roughness whatsoever. I took the boat out today and noises were all gone. I was also leaning...

I did that today, wire-brushed and sanded down to shiny metal all the connections. But still the same problem :( Here's a cold start video, once I touch the jumpers it immediately starts up...
No points, the newer electronic one (I think).
Replaced the slave, sorry for the confusion. Jumping the slave posts immediately starts it, it doesn't even do a full turn. When using the key it's cranking and turning over for a long time, or it takes 7-8 tries to get it to start.

So it seems there should have been some o-rings on those bolts (part #25-25429). I've used some that I had around until I get the correct size and the leak seems to have stopped.
