    "some of the cables become extremely hot after the engine has been running." I agree with the above suggestions but what cables got hot? Look at the insulation to see if you can see if any of it got hot and started to melt. How old are the batteries, have they been load tested?

    Same here in southern cal, I gave up fishing on weekends and dealing with the launch ramp/people issues. Just one more advantage of being retired.

    I do saltwater only and my breaks are dacromet. They hold up to the salt but I do have a sprayer with freshwater and spray the brakes after I launch the boat. I only fish during the week so I'm not holding up other people launching their boats.

    How are the battery cables and the switch contacts? Measure the voltage on the starter with the switch in the #1 position.

    buying a new boat, this is broken on the trailer. what is it?

    I can't tell from the picture but if you say it has a garden hose connection it's to flush the brakes. Does the trailer have drum brakes?
