1986 gimbal housing, gimbal ring, bellhousing, outdrive swap on to a 1968

I did just look and see the transom is most likely 1.5" and there is another board in between inner plate and transom, haha.

1986 gimbal housing, gimbal ring, bellhousing, outdrive swap on to a 1968

Thank you Kenny. The main reason to do swap is for the newer trim system. I guess I'll do some more research to hopefully confirm the 470 housing will bolt to the 160. I can fabricate something for the exhaust hopefully as long as there is a decent gap between the 160 elbow and the 470 transom...

1986 gimbal housing, gimbal ring, bellhousing, outdrive swap on to a 1968

So i'd need to use the newer inner transom plate? I keep seeing 14" as the engine mount spacing but it looks more like 15" on this 160. So the 1986 inner transom plate while be the 10" space so I'd need a newer flywheel housing with the engine mount spaced to match. Or will the 170 flywheel...

    Stringer boot recommendations?

We have a 1976 Pierce Arrow with the OMC 175 with Stinger electric shift. Do you have the same setup? Ours is electric shift. We need a new boot as well. Did you pull the drive the install or a gallon of Dawn and some busted knuckles get the job done? Haha. Thanks.

1986 gimbal housing, gimbal ring, bellhousing, outdrive swap on to a 1968

Just noticed yesterday that my u-joint bellow has a slight rubbed thru mark on it from the water inlet hose. I already have the wrong drive ratio (4-cylinder drive behind a 6-cylinder) and it's off my 1969 boat, and the trim system isn't working (leaks down immediately). I have the opportunity...

    1968 tilt/trim leaking by

Could a leaking reverse lockout valve be the reason why I can't keep drive up? It's wet with oil, but not actually dripping. Maybe sucking air?

    MC-1 260 swap

I have a complete Bravo 1 drive sitting around as well but saving that for a heavier boat like a pontoon or something. I’ve seen a lot of LS swaps in light boats and they’ve held up fine so I’m gonna cross my fingers. Haha

    MC-1 260 swap

I purchased a 1981 Searay with the 260hp setup for the trailer, some pieces off of it, and the potential of using the complete drivetrain for an older boat. With the 1968 Glaspar and 1969 Tom Sawyer I own, I’m noticing some parts are hard to come by for this drive setup (trim cylinders, trim...

Broken console to control shift cable

Just ran it on hose without upper shift cable attached and i can easily shift the drive from lower cable in and out of forward neutral and reverse. What I did notice is that the shift interupt switch is not working ( i manually triggered it in all 3 positions and no change to engine rpm ). So i...

Broken console to control shift cable

I didn't know that, but how else would i check operation of the forward and reverse prior to taking it to the lake? I can (with engine off) shift it at the bracket easily in both directions. That could still mean I need a lower shift cable?

Broken console to control shift cable

ordered a new shift cable and will check /adjust shift interrupt switch. It was working correctly on hose 3 days ago but who knows. haha

Broken console to control shift cable

The 1968 Glasspar that I got a few weeks ago without a drive on it was hard to get out of forward and reverse gear the first time I took it out but I little wiggle off the lever near neutral would do the trick. Next time I took it out (last night) was hard to get out of forward and extremely...

    1967-1969 trim cylinders obsolete

Ran my 1968 on the lake the other day and couldn't trim up under power and assuming it was lifting out of the water when in reverse because boat barely moved in reverse. Went to look for replacement or preferably rebuild kits for the cylinders and it seems that the 1967-69 cylinders are...
