I have water in my LU. I did a pressure test and it held 20 PSI for over 1 hour. Now I want to do a vacuum test, what do you guys use to pull the vacuum? Will the automotive brake bleeder hand pump be sufficient?
I am suspecting that the seals are not good on my lower unit. I changed the oil in the spring and after about 3 hours this is what it looked like (shot glass) I left it in the glass for two days but nothing seperated, maybe it is just airated?

I did a pressure test and...
My '86 120 looper had this problem last year. Over the winter I re-built the 4 carbs and did a link & sync but the problem is still there. Starts fine, idles smooth and runs great at WOT :D but if I cruise at 3500 RPM it will run fine for a minute or two and then drop about 500 RPM for...
I rebuilt the carbs on my 120 looper and now the idle is slow low it wont idle withou throttle , even on the hose. I think it is running VERY rich as there is lots of smoke and black goop dripping of the exhaust. I did a link and sync as per OEM book, have not touched the WOT timming yet but I...
Is there an easy way to know if you are running lean (apart from piston meltdown  ) I understand that a lean running motor will appear to be running well, maybe too well.
I have just rebuilt the four carbs on my '86 120 looper over winter. I also added a foot throtle. I started it up on the mufs and after warm-up the idle is a lot lower than it used to be. Before the rebuild I would get about 1200 RPM on mufs but in the water, ingear, it was about 650 RPM...
I stripped, cleaned and re-built the 4 carbs on my '86 120 over the winter. Fired it up on the hose today and the idle seems a lot lower than before. I used to get around 1500RPM on the hose now its like 600 RPM and stalls easily. Haven't put in in the water yet. I havn't done a link and sync...
I have read many places that it is bad to lug a motor. If I run my '86 120 looper at a WOT of 5300RPM is this considered lugging? If so what harm is done over time to the motor?

How is this different than having a WOT of say 6000 RPM but using less throttle and never going over 5300...
My Clymer book says to check/adjust the max timing on my 86 120 looper at 4500 RPM using a tank and test wheel and not to use the propeller. As I don't have access to a test wheel is there another suitable method I can use? I don't think hanging off the back of the boat at 50 MPH is a good...
What is the function of the water control valve on my 86 120 looper? The previous owner has re-routed the hose from the top-port side directly to the pee tube (added a tee) and blocked off where it went into the water valve.
