Hey just looking for some advise from the wise Boat gods. I have a 1986 Four Winns Freedom 160. It had a 3.0L V4 in it that had a cracked block so I repowered it to a 4.3L OMC V6. The 4.3L has a 15 x 19 prop on it currently and at WOT it is at 5200 RPMs. The motor should be 4200-4600 RPM WOT. So...
So..... It seems I got too busy working on the boat to post updates but here is the best update of them all. After 3 months of work she is in the water. No longer dry docked but sitting in the river now floating . She took a dip on July 3rd just in time for the fireworks this past...
Last layer of transom is on and dry. TRANSOM is complete and it came in a little under 2" may go over it with a layer of epoxy to thicken it up and get rid of the texture from the fiberglass. Anyways time to move on to the stringers. On a side note I plan on painting the transom and the bilge...
Transom 1st layup is in....Tomorrow 2nd coat goes in then 1 more full layer on the whole thing. On the 1st layer I went 4 in on transom and 4 in on hull. I was thinking 6 and 6 on the next pass does this sound good enough?
Houston, we have INSTALLATION :drum:
So since last time I was able to get 1 layer of 17oz on the front and let it cure overnight. Today I mixed up some PB alittle over 2 QTs and glued in the transom. I still need to do my fillets on the edges but I must say it looks good even if some want to...
Hey Everyone,
So got everything I need to finish the boat up. My order came from USC and I got all my wood. Got the transom outlined and pieces cut. Ended up doing 2 full sheets of 3/4 in and a center of 1/2 inch. Its all glued together and tomorrow will be giving it a resin bath.
Hey everyone so I have gotten almost all the grinding done... probably another hour of clean up spots left. After I am done I was thinking of pulling the boat out of my garage and washing the inside and starting on my wood.
I will say when the grinding is done my wife might be a bit happier...
I ordered from USC and got 16 yards of cloth and the 5 Gallon Epoxy. I got a lot of grinding done today as well. Tomorrow I plan on getting the front done.
Hey Zool,
Ladder hinge was good and all my teak seems to look great now just waiting on the teak oil. I found some exterior Fur plywood I am going to use instead of marine seeing as it will save me $250.00. I have all next week off from work so I plan on putting a lot of hours in. I plan on...

Grinding is coming along but this is surely a slow process. I have the last week of April off and my plan is to have this thing prepped and ready for glass by the beginning of May.
I have a couple of questions:
When grinding I noticed its hard to get a smooth flat surface should I...
Zool,
Thanks for the information... I am a bit away from needed everything but as we know the wife holds the checkbook and wants me to figure out how much I am looking at. I have come with 2G-2.5G for my restore.
For right now I have all the stringers out and working on the transom now. I do...
So I have been lurking around and reading through some posts here and figured I would reach out for some knowledge. I was given a 1986 Four Winns Freedom 160 and the floor, transom and stringers were rotted out. I have ripped everything out and will be replacing the stringers with 3/4 inch wood...
