I just bought a Coach 243 FLC tritoon and man what a great boat! What it means is that I now have a spare pontoon boat and a place in FL to leave it. It's a bay area and a small boat so I wont have it on the open water. What all considerations do I need to think of before/during it's saltwater...
What's the issue removing the tstat? It ran fine afterward. Also I made sure I did not disconnect the temp sensor tan wire. I did change the spring but the kit I bought (real Johnson OEM kit) didnt have the new tstat cover, which could be causing the restricted flow. I dont think I'm going to...
This weekend I pulled the thermostat and the issue went away. Seems it just couldnt get the water flow it needed. I will pull the head after the season and clean it up good. Meanwhile I ran it for hours and it never entered SLOW mode.
Thanks for the help!
On a side note, I shot video of the...
I didnt find out about this modification until a few days ago, which was a year after performing the install. It was a factory part and did not come with a new cover. All I can do right now is remove the t-stat altogether and test it again.
T-stat cover wasn't bad...mildly dirty but not gunked or scaled up much especially for a motor this age. It was a year ago so I'd have to remove it again to see the condition. Since it is slowly getting worse, it seems like this may be the road I'm on. I'm willing to flush it out before trying...
Boat's lived its entire life on the same lake. That was my fear that it had gunk built up inside. I really didnt want to start disassembling it because of the age...breaking bolts etc seems like it will be quite a chore. Since it's slowly getting worse, I'm crossing my fingers it's the diode...
At the top of the motor just in from the t-stat it read around 142 when SLOW kicked in. Yes it drops to high 2,000's (tach not 100%, but close). I found in my service manual how to test the diode so I'm going to do that as well as remove the t-stat completely and see what it does. I really hope...
I got a laser infrared thermometer and ran the boat this evening. When SLOW mode engaged the top of the motor where the temp sensor is, read 142. I moved over to the side opposite the exhaust manifold, where I would assume the cylinders are closer to the exterior of the motor and it read 195 at...
I moved the tell tale per the bulletin to the top of the manifold and checked the temperature. It went into SLOW mode while the discharge temp was 123 F. I dont think the thermostat even opens until 140 F. I think I'm going to try it with the thermostat removed and if it does it again I'm going...
