Best Practices For Throttle and Trim management to not blow a motor

I have a 1979 Evinrude 75hp, with some parts from two other Johnsons to give it power trim. It has the old style wiring with a rectifier not regulator, but I have that wiring setup if I need it. Presently I'm not having any issues going out and having a good time, I tend to cruise at 4k-4.5k...

    75 hp Evinrude issues

As far as power trim, racerone is right, it's either mounted on your engine or they've stashed it somewhere on board. I remounted a 79 evinrude onto my 93 johnson chassis so I could use the powertrim and it's the same wiring. You can look up '2 wire johnson power trim wiring diagram' and that...

    Mystery Bolt and New Gasket?

Thankfully it's freshwater. I guess I'll have a look in the spring. Thankfully since it's been off somewhat recently I don't expect a lot of seized bolts thankfully. I would be surprised that it would be warped but, can't argue with the evidence in front of me and since it has to come off anyway...

    Mystery Bolt and New Gasket?

Giggling water droplets? I believe the gaskets are less than 2 years old and the previous owner was a mechanic who did quite a bit of work to the motor, he sold only because he needed a larger one for his newer boat. I can definitely just re-torque them in the spring. I'm not looking to make...

    Mystery Bolt and New Gasket?

racerone is correct I'm just talking about the gasket, that's not the type of thing I would do on a motor I plan on using in the near future, I'd get a beater to learn on. Hope you feel better soon!

    Mystery Bolt and New Gasket?

Hi all, Just winterized my 1976 75hp evinrude after a great season. Noticed two things while I was fogging the engine. 1. Some water seeping out - you can see in the video linked - https://photos.app.goo.gl/6tq15RdjhNKP8uqi7 I'm assuming that it's safe to say it's worth replacing the...

    Tach for 2-Stroke 3-Cylinder Outboard

The Equus 8068 worked like a charm! Will just be doing a little extra work to help make it a bit more waterproof but otherwise, easy hookup to the tach line and calibration to 12cyl took 30 seconds

    Tach for 2-Stroke 3-Cylinder Outboard

I called up a few companies and asked some questions. As it turns out, a 4 stroke 12 cylinder tach will read a 6 pole accurately. Just picked up an Equus 8068 which can be calibrated to any cyl from 1-12 on four strokes. Will report back on whether or not it works.

    Tach for 2-Stroke 3-Cylinder Outboard

I tried out a few, the farias/sierras are significantly more in Canada on Amazon (closer to 200-300. The generics are all for 4 stroke and they don't work off the grey lead from my harness, I was sitting at about 4k rpm at idle

    Tach for 2-Stroke 3-Cylinder Outboard

Teleflex/Faria tachs are around 250-300 CAD I'll go that route if that's the only real option I just figured there'd be a middle ground

    Tach for 2-Stroke 3-Cylinder Outboard

Just got my tach harness for my Johnson 3cyl and can't seem to find a compatible tach outside of a new Faria and trying to not spend that much if I don't have to. Does anyone know of any products available in Canada that will do the trick? I had looked at Equus but they said their products are...

Sustainable Electrical Setups for Older Motors

So good news, after cleaning connections and replacing terminal endings at the battery I went from low charge to now possibly overcharging? I'm reading 15.2V at the battery when cruising, voltmeter on the dash reads about 14.2-14.4 which makes sense with voltage drop. Am I now overcharging...

Sustainable Electrical Setups for Older Motors

I've ordered a few from them! Actually just placed an order for a tach harness too.

Sustainable Electrical Setups for Older Motors

Update on this, after replacing battery terminal connections, thorough cleaning of all connections I registered a much stronger voltage, around 13.9/14V There seems to be a discrepancy between my voltmeter/usb charger and the battery itself as when I last moored, they were showing 12.2 volts and...
