I have a fleet of three boats with two engines each.
they are fairly new.
I have a problem with three motors all at the same time, two on one boat and one on another.. Above 2,500 RPMs they start to vibrate and the pilot is obliged to reduce speed to under 2,500.

I have just stripped a 2006 Mercury starter.
It has/had four brass bushes that revolved the armature using a flat plate rather than the rounded with carbon brushes.
What seems strange to me is that the insided is drenched in a black smelly oil !
Anyone know if this is normal?
