    my fathers musings

"The God Problem is one that persists high on my favorites list. It’s by Howard Bloom who graduated from Reed College a long time ago and has never ceased being impressed by the intellect that that achievement implies. Having read the book several times, I agree with his high self-esteem. Howard...

    Removing Spiders

spiders are common at my marina. "SpiderAway" is a product I used once but the ingredients are vinegar and peppermint oil, so I just make my own. (peppermint oil-amazon) . It does seem to reduce them. I also use a bug spray sparingly. I have a double bimini top on a pontoon boat and they mainly...

    Pontoon defect (blemish?) on log

never seen anything like that on any pontoon, including my '06 Lowe, or any forum. If that was a hairline crack, that toon would be full of water. Maybe looks worse than what it is. Aluminum experts should step in. Maybe a good welder could fill it in by welding or brazing.

What kind of boat is this?

popular back in the late 70's - 80's. My brother had one. They'll beat the heck out of you at speed even in a relatively calm lake.

    cupped prop question

I said.. I want 6000 when I'm empty....not with 9 people. the question was does a cupped prop decrease rpms , everything else being equal.

    cupped prop question

".....and the peak of the torque curve is usually much lower than the max RPM point..." torque/rpm ....curves/graphs ...show rpm and torque curves intersecting at around 5250 rpms. Car engines....After that torque begins to drop off as rpms increase. don't know about marine/outboards but...

    cupped prop question

not speed or efficiency.... if I put 9 people on my pontoon I like seeing my motor running at the higher rpm.

    cupped prop question

the 6000 rpm is at the max recommended range. I want that with me on board only. Now it's 5800. It's a pontoon. Not looking for more speed or mpg. I had a merc. 3-16x12. At WOT (by myself) it hit 6150+. It let me pull teens on toons. The best I could do prop wise for that. But solo at 6000 rpm...

    cupped prop question

I have an aluminum Merc. 4 blade 14x14 that gives me 5800 rpm @ WOT. I want 6000. There is no 4-14x13 that fits my motor (4 3/4 gearcase), so I'm entertaining having a prop re-shaped. Dans Props say he can take a 4-15x13 and make it a 14x13......but it's a cupped prop. that's gonna give the same...
