Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

I would rather own an Engine with a Carb, than one with the Impossible to troubleshoot, adjust, or repair Fuel Injection

Water coming out of bottom of engine area?

Pull the Cowl, and the Rear Housing Cover off, and look for a leak with the Motor Running, you might need a Flashlight. Look at the Head Gasket, the Exhaust Cover Gaskets, any hoses coming from the Motor, and the Gaskets between the Block, the Exhaust Adapter, and the Megaphone

Once you have the 115, hopefully a 2 Stroke, you will be wondering why you waited so long. My first 2 boats were 15 footers, with the same Hull, one with an Evinrude 140, the second with a Merc 115. The Merc had better Hole Shot, Higher Top Speed, and did so on less Gas

It is worth, whatever somebody is willing to give you for it, and that will likely vary from person to person. If you have the Receipts for any Parts and Services done, it might help the Value. Far too many times I have heard, 'I did this, that, and the other thing, but damn, I just can't find...

115 6c TOP piston cylinder issue

The Hose provided a Vacuum Draw on the Fuel Bowl during part throttle operation, resulting in Less than Atmospheric Pressure on the Fuel in the Bowl, reducing how much Fuel was pushed into the Venturi. A Metered Orifice for the Bowl Vent prevented the Pressure in the Bowl from dropping too Low...

115 6c TOP piston cylinder issue

Cylinders 1&2 share a Carb, 3&4 share another, and 5&6 share the last one. A leaky upper Crankshaft Seal can result in #1 running Lean Hmm. You say it is an 80s motor? If so, it has what Mercury called the Back Drag Feature on the Carb, a way to improve Fuel Economy at Part Throttle. Works well...

115 6c TOP piston cylinder issue

Myself, I wouldn't even give those Reeds any concern. Lean ness, Overheating, lack of Lubrication, and Detonation are some of the primary causes of Cylinder/Piston Problems. How long have you had this Motor, and do you have the Service/Repair History of it?

It should. Did you try cleaning out the old Grease(it is close to 55 yrs old), and applying fresh stuff? Which Engine?

I remember 40 yrs ago, only a couple of Bike Shops, in a city of a Pop, of close to a Million, would machine Merc Inline Blocks

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

The 4 cylinder Merc 850 was first marketed in 1973, the last year for it was 1977. Mercs of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and into the 80s used Wire that did not hold up well over time. Mercury must have bought enough of the stuff to go to the Moon and back at least a couple of times. A Good Spark would...

This doesn’t look right to me

I remember even with the Locking Tab Washer, the Prop Nut had the Nylon Insert. I suppose the Nut with the Nylon Insert could be trusted, but only if it was replaced with a new One, every time it was touched by a Wrench/Socket

125 HP fails to rev up

For decades, Mercury, on its Inline Engines, had no removable Cylinder Head. Removal of the Water Jacket Cover on one of the older inlines, and you would see this. That changed on the V6s. Your Engine is like the 1st Gen, no Head, but might look a little different with the Jacket Cover off
