    Funny you say that. When I was about 14, me and a camping buddy ran identical 12' tin boats on the salt chuck. I had a '73 9.5 and he had a '77+ 9.9. Two skinny kids and the boats were equal. Maybe I was skinnier?

    2006 90EXLPTO no compression on #1

    Neighbor has a 2006 90EXLPTO with no compression on the top cylinder. What's the typical failure mode on these and are they a bear to fix? From a quick look these don't have a removable head, so the pistons poke in from the crankcase side. (I'm an OMC handy with zero Merc skills).

    Johnson 110 v4 outboard overheating on starboard side

    The deflectors are in the right places. Maybe there's a blockage in the head cover. You should be able to test with the head off by running a garden hose to the head outlet and see if the water comes out the slot at the top. Have you had the head cover off?
