    OMC Stringer hydro mechanical shift

Interesting, I was suspecting a long string of "this breaks, that breaks, this leaks, that leaks, etc etc etc"..... I guess that the major downside to the hydro shift assist system is that parts are hard to find.

    OMC Stringer hydro mechanical shift

I have acquired a 1982 18 footer with an OMC stringer, full mechanical shift, and was wondering what was the exact problem with the "hydro shift assist", on the earlier mechanical stringers, since OMC went away from that system ?

470 4 barrel conversion, one cylinder missing

I have not done any investigation, but I would suspect that the jetting in both carbs (2 & 4 barrel) hasn't been the same, from start untill the end of the 3.7 engine life.

470 4 barrel conversion, one cylinder missing

Ok, here is the final answer to the question: Can you install a 4 barrel carb and intake manifold(from another 3.7 engine) on a 470, without changing anything else and get more power and a smooth running engine? NO YOU CAN'T, IT WILL NOT WORK !! As mentioned earlier in the thread, my 470...

470 4 barrel conversion, one cylinder missing

Ok, so there seems to be a slight difference between the 2 and 4 barrel internals, but should that really be enough to make my engine run bad ? I would assume that it was a matter of a little power loss. I actually have the camshaft etc from the donor motor, but right now I don't have the time...

470 4 barrel conversion, one cylinder missing

I have converted my 470 into a 4 barrel carb, since I had a donor motor with all the parts needed. I rebuild the carb, took all the time in the world to make sure everything was right, cleaned and blew out every passage inside, installed bushings on the primary shaft. But something is wrong, I'm...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

I guess that most people would say that I should drop the 470 engine and install a V6 or V8, but the 470 does a decent job, so I will keep it for now. I guess that since I have the parts, for the 4 barrel upgrade laying around anyway, I might as well give it a try. I haven't thought about the...

Mercruiser 470, 2 to 4 barrel carb conversion.

Yes, it has been debated before, but many threads are quite old now, so I think it's time again :) Here is the story. I have a 23 footer with a Mercruiser 470 (2 barrel carb) It goes well, I have a 14.5x19 propeller on it, and it pulls the boat on the plane quite ok, when we are two people in...

    Mercruiser 470 starter options

I have bought a 23 footer with a Mercruiser 470, year 1986. In general, the 470 engine seems to be cranking slow, when looking at youtube videos, mine is no exception. On another boat I have, with a 4.3 V6, there is a gear reduction starter, very nice starter, small but powerfull. It would be...

Volvo Penta AQ 170 carb linkage

I don't know how many runs these engines anymore, but I would still like to show a little update I have made. The original carb linkage for the triple Solex setup was, in my eyes, not the best solution. A little difficult to synchronize the carbs perfectly. So I have made my own system...

Anyone have Seastar HC5332 cylinder on their Bravo 3?

On page 17 it appears that this actuator is for non power assist systems only. The cylinder is supposed to be attached to the tiller arm, and the piston to the transom bracket. I don't know if there is a mistake in the catalogue, because the item No appears under two drawings (red circles)...

Volvo Penta AQ 170 running lean issue solved

I have a 17 footer with an AQ170 engine (B30 straight six, triple Solex 44PAI ). I bought the boat as a project and finished it a couple of years ago. The boat is mostly used on the lakes nearby, which are no wake zones, so I hardly ever take it on plane. But sometimes when there are no canoes...

    Shimming Intermediate to lower unit

I would say yes, you need to have a tool for holding the bearing race in place. I have made my own tool. It only holds the race in two spots(three would probably be better). I gently tighten the adjusting screws and tap the race with a small hammer, also gently, while rotating the shaft. Then...

    Turbocharger for mercruiser 140

At a point there was a turbokit for the Mercruiser 140, I believe. I wouldn't wast time and money on such a project, find a larger engine = V6.
