Since starting to try figure out why I lose power under load, I have been concerned with this oily colored, fuel smelling liquid in and around my carbs.

will my 2000 70hp Johnson run if I just remove the solenoid? Just wondered as mine finally ran a bit before quiting. Closed off the fuel into but did nothing at the carbs.
I have come to the point that my flooding issue must have something to do with some dirty carbs. I drained them and the bottom had some very oily looking gas and a little grit come out.
Question: Should I just go ahead now and get three repair kits on the way or open them and see there...
2000 70 hp seems to be flooding out. I have had previous situations were the engine would not shut down when turn off the at the key. Then the engine stopped dead while cruising along just fine.
Could there be a short in the ignition switch itself which might hinder the choke operation?
This beast has run flawlessly for me over the past couple of years. I bought it used. I should mention that there was a bit of a hiccup a couple of months back, it would not shut down when I turned the key off. That didn't happen again other than sometimes it seemed reluctant to shut down.
