So I've noticed when I was searching for another part for a different motor it has the same piston as my 80's one so using that should work do you think , it a 175hp 1983 johnson, bores not scored either (thank goodness) .

Well I have a 85hp johson 1980 according to the tag ,
question is would a 60-70's era 85hp evinrude/johnson piston fit or are they different in size as the 80s one is a good motor apart from the one piston showing signs of damage.

I had a good run over the leg and found a crack on the lower part of gearbox so looking like it's going to be needing a replacement as the position of it will effect the gearbox operation anyway.
Just found what is going on with mine its got power to the system in the leg ,but it's like the piston is jammed so looking for a replacement but none about in new Zealand. Any ideas would be great .
Seems we all have the same issue, good to know there are these awesome people with the know how , I to was wondering how to get mine to shift from forward , mine won't shift when cranking but knowing it may shift out of gear when running is awesome thanks guys.
