1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

I guess I thought the pictures showed the issue I was asking about, I believe I posted that all the parts are OE by the casting numbers. Not sure I said anything about a serial number on my intake either, I looked up all my parts on Mercruiser using the engine serial numbers.

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

Thanks for this picture, if the intake holes in the gasket are smaller then the Vortec style it might take care of it. Amazon says currently unavailable but I will look into these. (My intake only has 8 bolt holes, not sure if it was you but someone thought I had older style 12 bolt intake)

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

Thanks for your input but I think you are having difficulties with the actual problem. The gaskets do not fit the intake, all heads and intakes are original mercruiser parts. I was hoping someone that ACTUALLY worked on a similar 1998 carbureted engine may have run into this. It is not a case of...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

The number on the intake manifolds is a casting number. Same number as the part number on Mercruiser site except it has a 'C' instead of A1.

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

The manifold is original to the boat and the same casting numbers as the starboard side motor. If I look up the serial number on mercruiser it is the same number as what is on the manifold. If you look at the application list for the intake manifold it only shows several carburetor applications...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

Yes both sides are the same and no signs of any metal being removed. It is as if the carbureted intake ports are smaller on the intake and the gasket needs to be a little narrower, I saw another intake at a machine shop that had much more casting in that area but it was a throttle body intake...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

Yes the gasket has no casting to seal against on the intake and the port is therefore opened to the crankcase. There has been no porting done, the second picture shows the actual casting shape and the gaskets sits too far over to the left of the edge of the intake manifold port. The blue sealing...

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

The first picture is in position where locating pins would have it, second picture I moved gasket on the intake to show where the casting is behind it, 3rd shows the gap when the gasket is in place. The pictures are of the gasket on the intake manifold which is upside down. They have full...

When I look at the feed there are 3 pictures. Do you just see 3 blank images or nothing at all?

The gaskets have pins to locate on the head. We have tried them both sides and with pins up and the won't line up to the intake.

1998 Mercruiser 5.0 Intake manifold gasket mismatch issues

I have been chasing a rough running problem since I bought this boat, I have confirmed that I have an intake manifold gasket internal leak. I pulled the manifold today and have found that the gaskets do not line up with the casting for the ports causing a leak from the crankcase. I took the...

    Mercruiser 5.7 running on only 4 cylinders.....help!!!

I am also having a similar problem, I have rebuilt the carb and also switched with the carb on the other motor. Runs pretty much the exact same and the other motor runs fine. I'm hoping I can check both intake planes with a vacuum gauge, hoping it is not a valve train issue.

    1998 Mercruiser 5.0 running problem - Camshaft???

The boat has 2 tanks and I've run both engines on the port and starboard tank. This motor runs terrible on both tanks and the starboard motor runs good on either tank. There is plenty of room in the bilge, I have no trailer for the boat so the marina would have to lift and block the boat. They...

    1998 Mercruiser 5.0 running problem - Camshaft???

Plus were black, 4 were wetter. There is unburnt fuel in the water. Your 'no' answer, is that to 'can it be changed in the boat?
