Does keel damage lead to water intrusion--please view photo

This Sea Hunt has some damage to the hull along the front keel and would this type of damage be enough to allow water into the hull? What are the concerns and areas to check? Is a repair feasible and what would the best repair approach be? Please look at the photo's at this URL...

Went to replace thermostat and there wasn't one!!! Which way does new one go in?

Apparently the PO did not feel the need to have a thermostat and this explains why my temp gauge showed cold!! Anyhow, Mercruiser 165 inline 6 GM 250 and I'd like to know which way the thermostat is supposed to be installed in the housing. I'm not sure what to call each side, but, there's the...

Which oil filler cap to use on Mercruiser inline 6 165

I found a crack in the rocker cover and purchased a replacement. The existing (cracked) cover had a non-vented oil filler cap and a grommet in the center top with a thick vent hose to the flame trap. The new-to-me rocker cover has a very thin fitting out of the top-side, maybe 1/4" diameter...

Is somthing supposed to be here? Mercruiser 250 ci 165

There's an empty threaded hole. Is there a bolt missing or is this for attaching some sort of accessory that is not present? Please see attached photograph. Look for the thin, red arrow.

    MC-1 hydraulic line blockage? I think...next steps?

I've narrowed down the issue to some sort of hydraulic line blockage or problem in the TRIM DOWN. With the outdrive in the up position, I've disconnected the hydraulic line closet to the transom outside the boat and the outdrive lowered. At With those lines disconnected, the trim pump ran just...

Trim down sounds labored and drive won't lower

Mercruiser 165 Inline 6. I replaced the solenoid and trim pump last year. All worked great. While trimming down in the driveway yesterday, the trim pump lost all power, both up and down. I then checked fluid, needed a small amount, so topped it off. Next, I tried testing power at the dash...

Where do these go? Trim cylinder continuity springs?

I disconnected my trim cylinders from the drive housing to remove the housing for various service and I have washers, bushings and a pin. There are no continuity springs. However, my manual talks about them. Should they be there and where/how to they go in? The manual does not have a clear...

Oh No! I forgot the nylon washer, p/n 12-39116, that goes under the shift arm

On my MC-1, (1974 or thereabouts Mercruiser 165 I-6 pre-alpha) amidst the damp, humid darkness, lit by hot halogen lamps, with a huge dose of patience, I re-installed (for the first time) my upper driveshaft housing. Well, I got back into my garage, enjoying my success, looking forward to a...

Head is off. Two plugs clean, four sooty, water evidence?

1975 Mercruiser 250ci 165 hp. The two cylinders closet to the stern have clean spark plugs and a pretty clean valve. The other four cylinders are black like the picture with pretty sooty plugs. The cylinder at the other end by the thermostat was much less sooty. Are the clean ones being...

Need help troubleshooting to isolate problem to trim motor or electircal

I'm confused trying to follow the service manual process of using a battery to test the UP trim motor. I'm not sure what 'block' or connector is what so I'm not sure which blue wire to get from where? On my pump there's a solenoid and there's also a harness plugged in just below the solenoid...

Does my oil look 'water contaminated'?

I just drained the oil from my Mercruiser 165 inline 6. Does this look like water intrusion from a cracked block? The previous owner told me he did not do an oil change before storing the boat for the winter.

I cannot find my SN to save my life!!

I have a new to me 1972 Cruiser's Inc. with a Mercruiser 165 inline 6. I've looked above and all around the starter motor and do not see any tag or other indication of a serial number. I also cannot find any serial number or tag on the outdrive either. Did all these motors have the SN affixed...

Water in wrong place, new to me 1972 Cruisers, Inc. 21621C Project

I would like thoughts on how to approach mitigating the water on the wrong side of the stringers. I've included two photo's of the boat and one photo from Cruisers, Inc. detailing the construction of the hull. I expect there to be water only in the centerline of the hull that leads to the...

VHF connector--no receoption if tight, great reception if loose

I'm installing a new antenna and am having problems with the Gold plated solderless connector. With the connector installed, if I tighten down the outer ring onto the radio antenna out, I get only static while tuned to NOAA weather. But if I loosen the outer ring two turns, I get excellent...
