2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

Texasmark: By working I just meant a strong (as strong as always) tell-tale. I try following the same approach: avoid changing anything just for the sake of changing it. Why has the impeller lasted so long? Firstly it's freshwater. Secondly, light usage pattern: taking the boat onto the water at...

2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

Sorry yes I forgot to mention it's kg/cm2. I have already invested in not 1 but several (IIRC about 5 total) impellers, but why change something that's working..

2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

We measure compression in kg/cm2. Knowing that it's not a globally acceptable unit I tried converting it into PSI. In BAR it'd be 7.35BAR in the top cylinder and 6.86BAR in the other 2 (I don't know which units are commonly used in the US). I'm not a mechanic myself, so all I know about exhaust...

2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

I feel so too :) They're 7.5kg (107psi) in the top cylinder and 7kg (100psi) in the other 2. Not great but will still last a while: I think it'll need boring at 6kg.

2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

Chris1956: racerone: Thanks for your replies. The OB is actually running fine still on standard size pistons (although the compression is on the weak side of it) and surely I'm going to re-bore it into the 1st oversize when the time comes. The sleeves are more of an investment into my own peace...

2000 90ELPTO: Which sleeve: L130OB or L167OB? (short or long exhaust port notch)

Hi All, A screenshot from the LA Sleeve catalog attached suggests there are 2 different sleeves for the manufacturing years my 2000 90ELPTO outboard (made in Belgium, serial #0P121707) falls into: - L130OB (short exhaust port notch): 1994-2014 - L167OB (long exhaust port notch): 1998-2014 It...

    2-stroke 75-115hp piston compatibility

Hi All, I've just bought standard size piston assembly 826191T4 listed on Ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192646948344 and it's 826191A4 (dated 1997) that has just turned up instead. My own research so far suggests that the most recent version of 90hp that 826191A4 fits is serial numbers BEL...

    90hp lower unit geometry check

Hi All, Bought this one real cheap as spare incl all the internals in pretty good condition. Is there a way to check if its geometry is still intact before undertaking any welding works? I can't see anything wrong with it in the pictures below but guess it's a fraction of a millimetre that may...

Merc 75/90 ELPTO lower unit bearing cross reference

Hi All, Assuming this inner needle bearing in my spare 90 ELPTO lower unit bearing carrier assembly needs replacing because of the rust: https://s1.postimg.org/128nm9k3lb/2017-11-02_001.jpg , how do I cross reference its part number 31-12578T to bearing makers' numbers? (e.g. Koyo, SKF, Timken...

Merc 75/90 ELPTO lower unit parts interchange

Hi All, The original lower unit that my 2000-01 Merc 90 ELPTO came with must be part number 1667-9011G57, let's call it old one. Looks like the same outboards dated 2003-04 onwards (0T627235/0P215669 and up) came with 1667-9011J15 that I just purchased as spare, let's call it new one. Detailed...

    Voltage rectifiers/regulators for 2-stroke vs 4-stroke 90hp

Hi All, Just discovered that instead of a 883072T voltage rectifier/regulator for my 2-stroke 90ELPTO I had ordered a 883072T2 by mistake (several years ago), which seems to fit a range of 4-strokes: https://s26.postimg.org/m16ng9oxl/1948069_216878.jpg While looking identically to 883072T it's...

Oil injection system failures in modern 2-strokes

Hi All, I've just come across a collection of several threads elsewhere on various automix (oil injection) system failures in 2-strokes, made up by an owner of Yamaha 90 AETOL who decided to shut down the Autolube system in his outboard hoping to avoid any such risks. Some of the posts in those...

Cylinder block damage in 2.1L 4-strokes

Hi All, A couple of guys have just reported a severe issue occuring at just a few dozen hours with 2.1L 4-strokes and resulting in connecting rod breaking apart and damaging cylinder block, in particular with a 2016 Merc F115CT and a 2015 Merc F80 reported in Russia here (there appear to be a...

Yamaha F80-F100 cylinder #4 connecting rod breakage: known issue?

Hi All, Is it a known issue where Yamaha F80-F100 series outboards get their cylinder #4's connecting rod broken, damaging the crankcase? If so where can I find tech bulletin and/or any other docs with further details incl the root cause? Been reading a thread about it on a different forum and...

    Aftermarket starter for 90 ELPTO

Hi All, Looking for a spare starter (#50-66015T1) and seeing 3-4 times price difference between OEM and aftermarket ones. Are the latter ones that much worse? Which aftermarket makes are the best and which ones should I stay away from? Thanks in advance, Dmitriy
