Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

The tool I used before the season showed that it was fine, but the guy I got it from had it machined, and the OD of part getting into the spline was too small. I got a new one, and when I first tried it, it went in only 0.5" before jamming and becoming impossible to remove. The bad alignment and...

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Yes I checked each position by rotating engine shaft 90deg each time. There was difference in height on picture because that time front mounts were not set at the same hight one side was like 10mm higher then the other. But after getting them even lowered front mounts max in and still couldn't...

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

I temporarily put an SS washer under the rear mounts as they were too low, and there was no way to get the engine aligned. It sits even on both sides and the gaps are bigger after putting washers. Today I tested the boat with the new prop as well and it runs great. Is there any way to get the...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Small update to this "little story". I changed out the 14.5x19" SS sporty prop to the same size aluminum one and tested the boat. I decided to go with a stock Black Max 14.5x19" prop for this Bayliner VR5 setup. I n another post, I mentioned having issues with the motor mounts and alignment...

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

The boat was shipped from Canada in a container. Due to its size, the container is tilted on its side so the boat can be loaded and secured. The container is then placed back upright for transport, meaning the boat travels across the ocean on its side. That’s likely the reason why the mountings...

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Found also this checking transom drawing. Not sure but seems that its either u-shape type like I have or normal washer no. 7 Still need to figure out why gaps are not even or should it sit flat on washer.

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

It is newer style and what I meant asking for was a rubber washer (a on picture post 3). The one is on photo looks like plastic or this rubber washing is missing. From top it looks like this. I will probably have to lift back of the engine and see why one side sits lower

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Thanks, checked before but images for some reason were not displayed, now i see it. I checked engine monuts on transom, and one side looks lower than the other one. And fiber washer (f) is it that black washer on my photo or is it missing.

Alignment Tool for Aplha One Gen 2

Could someone please confirm if the alignment dimensions in the link below are correct? I had a part machined to these specifications, and it is very tight at the end. https://mbsmfg.com/MEATNR-E28/?srsltid=AfmBOoojVgnBBaKxKd9ZwmgQUm_FVsVvNzlCHOY1UINMLQt_SqTKotwV

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Is was leaking from valve cover vent. Drive was checked for correct ratio and 1.62 was confirmed by turning u joint shaft 10 times and counting 6,2ish prop revs. Is the specification showed below correct for the alignment tool? The I borrowed from a friend and it look like machined in the...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I referred to vacuum and fuel flow during idling for few minutes not revving. Vacuum is 3inHg lower and fuel consumption is 25-30% higher at idle with drive installed. That's why asked if that difference is something normal. I didn't check engine alignment at 12, 3 etc. I will check that. I...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I also performed leak down test. First the cold engine readings were 25-32%. Then yesterday after waming up the engine and checking the engine max rev. At TDC worse cylinder improved from 32% to 25%, the rest show the same 5-7% improvement. Not to good anyway? Not sure what are good readings for...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

I read more about props I have. Asked AI to compare them both and find Black Max equivalent. No wonder dropping prop pitch by 2" didn't change much. 19" and 21" I have are pretty much the same - equivalent to 21.5-22" Black Max. What about trying 14.5x19" Black Max - that's standard for this...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

TDC was correct confirmed with inspection camera. First set best what I saw on camera and then checked TDC. Emailed Merc but seems that they wont tell anything more than is in service manual or published in bulletin. They told me what should be fuel pressure but nothing about vacuum or cam...

Mercruiser 4.5l low vacuum, WOT 4350 and higher fuel consumption

Since I was checking the valve springs, I also verified the valve timing. For cylinders 1 and 4, the intake valve pushrod lift begins at 18° BTDC and ends at approximately 108° ATDC. I also checked refluctor wheel center where (part with no tooth) and is positioned 88deg BTDC - checked inside...
