Thanks @tpenfield for the video. That hull design with the liner does seem very strong but nearly impossible to check for rot or any other type of issue. Looks like they fill all the hidden open cavities with foam so that's good. I guess a good look at what you can see and hope the rest is in...
Thanks for the replies. This 1999 225 is really clean. 250 hours. I am told the engine is fine. My point was, not knowing anything about a Crownline, is that the hull should be built pretty well if the boats are offered with a 7.4L. It's not in the water and we probably won't move on it...
Looking at a 1999 225BR with a 5.0. Is the hull constructed the same for a 5.0L boat as it is for a 5.7L boat or even a 7.4L boat? Seems like they would be coming down the line the same and then get different engines. Put another way, if they're making a hull that can handle running a 7.4...
Small follow-up… recap- the lower unit on this engine is experiencing severe corrosion in a freshwater lake. I pulled some of the anodes today and while the transom bracket one and the lower unit one are pretty bad, the three I pulled from the engine are not so bad. Based on the condition of the...
I got an eye on the head to block area and it does appear to be, I’ll say “overlapped” or “keyed-in” rather than a head slapped on a block.
Do I have to remove the powerhead as a whole before I can split the head from the block? Thanks!!
2004 DF140 on 2002 19’ Larson in fresh water. Not sure about hours. This engine has been in the family since new but left my care for many years. It came back to me and I have spent the summer getting it running better. Found cleaning corrosion in the VST, cleaning the injectors, draining fuel...
Update- I made a slick little fuel psi tester from a 1/4” npt brass tee, two 5/16” barb fittings and some longer lengths of 5/16” fuel injection hose. I put a 0-60 gauge on it and it sat in the space at the top of the fuel rail where that little air box usually lives. I ran the boat and it...
Even tho I might look lame in the anode department, I do change lower unit lube every season. Thank you and I will be watching for water in the gear case.
I looked after this engine for about 5 years when we first bought it and then it went to my in-laws and a local marina. After 10 years, now...
Thanks all for the insightful responses. I have not checked our slip for stray voltage but do think I should shift to magnesium anodes. I am not finding direct-fit magnesium choices for our Suzuki DF140 but I am seeing generic parts. Can I or should I bolt magnesium blocks on top of new stock...
Hmm. Not really shore power but our neighbor about 40 feet away has a fully powered boathouse in the water with a fridge, lights, ice eater power and that kind of stuff. Doesn’t seem like that stuff would leak to water. Any way to check for stray juice like that?
Oh yes, sorry I got that backwards. I was thinking it might be acid rain over the years. The Lake must be fighting that pretty well to be basic. Thanks…
Our 2004 DF140 has corrosion attacking the lower unit. We just recently discovered this hole with water draining out when the engine is tilted. We’re on Lake George in NY and the water while being drinking quality may be slightly acidic. Edit- just read ph ranges between 7.5-8.
I recently read...
