I bought a boat with a 2000, 2 stroke, 50 hp merc and it has only a drip of water coming out of the p hole at idle, and it has about 50% more with partial power and good pressure at full throttle. Is that normal? The motor has a new water pump impeller.
I have an early 80's 35hp. The gasket underneath the coverplate (where the spark plugs screw in) does not appear to have had any sealant on it. When I replace it with the new gasket should I use any kind of sealer?

I noticed this weekend while I was out on the water, water was spewing out at the top sparkplug. The engine runs great, for now, so I'm thinking it has to be a head gasket.
