I've got a 1992 Mariner Thirty. It's a 2-stroke 30hp manual start motor running on pre-mix (no oil injection system on this motor). The engine fires right up and runs great but then dies after about 5-6 seconds. When I say dies it doesn't sputter it falls flat on it's face like someone hit...

here's a photo of mine. it does look to be a newer design than yours so maybe the cross reference chart is correct and the local service guy is just being lazy on his cross refence.

I've followed numerous threads and posts here trying to find the exact year of my outboard. Its a Mariner Thirty with a serial number stamp of "made in japan" 689 L 536303. I can't find this number on any of the available cross reference sites. Can anyone help?
