    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

As always, I appreciate the great advice I get here. I got a 153 tooth flywheel and a new starter - all fits now including the bell housing. I ordered studs but they are too small. I see now that the 292 has larger bolt holes so I will have to get new studs and drill the flywheel/coupler to...

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

Thank you. The 292 came with a 14" flywheel which I believe to be 168 teeth. But I think what is needed for the marine application is the 153 teeth version??? which is around 12" my concern is how will the starter then fit? If the flywheel is 1" away it won't reach the teeth. See image.

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

Is there any way for someone to provide me with the part # of the correct pre alpha flywheel bell housing for the 250? I think I need to validate what I have.

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

Thanks. If I swapped the flywheel - not sure how that would work - the starter would then be out of alignment. Surely there is a housing for this? I really don't want to have to swap my gimble and mount.

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

The part # on the housing I have is 63530 which I "think" came off the 250 but does not fit over the 14" flywheel.

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

Thank you and will do but in short, the bell housing I have (4 various ones) will not fit over the flywheel. I will see if I can get their part # and post. Perhaps the correct bell housing got tossed by accident.

    Bell Housing - Merc 250 vs 292

Hi Everyone. My boat used to have a 165HP L6 250 engine but was toast and tossed. I have a 292 L6 to install and is ready to go 100% except for the bell housing which does not fit - I thought they were supposed to be an exact match. I need to identify what bell housing part # to get. The...

    Strange oil pressure

As a short term fix, is there an additive that we can add to the oil to increase viscosity?

    Strange oil pressure

oil pressure was verified simply with the thumb over the hole technique but it's the temp going way high that indicates it's not gauges as you can tell the engine is indeed hot. If the rod/main bearings were the culprit, would we not hear the obvious knock?

    Just curious

Would it affect anything for temperature or oil pressure?

    Just curious

    Lol. Fair enough.

    Just curious

I'm just wondering what symptoms you would see if an engine block was not able to breath properly. I.e. breather cap or other blocked and not allowing gases to vent.

    Strange oil pressure

No but I think those are logical next steps. Strange for them to fluctuate like that tho. I'm going to check the oil channels and maybe try a different oil.

    Strange oil pressure

Mercruiser 4.1L inline 6 What has been done and tested: Water pressure is good - lots of flow New oil pump, filter and oil Cleaned out the Pickup tube Issue: Runs for first hour or so 100% Oil pressure slowly starts to drop Oil press eventually reads very low and then the temp goes up...
