Hey Partner, what it seems you may also need in addition to the above would be a dab of humility and a sense of humor as these gentleman will give you all the time in the world, should you stumble. Without it you'll be as broke as your boat!

Mercruiser 140 shift cables are killin' me!

To answer your question, I am not completely sure...??? Well, it is a 1978 Beach liner and on the production of such the shift plate is on top of the flywheel. The drive shift cable mounts from port to starboard. The remote mounts from the starboard side so the cables end up being opposite...

So, out of water, I adjusted both drive and remote shift cables...forward locks drive shaft ccw, then neutral spins freely, then into reverse until locked cw. So meanwhile, I launch her into the drink and all I get is she will shift into reverse, but not into forward gear...(btw, both are brand...

    2.3 cobra shift problem now...?

Good ideas...I get so wrapped that I often lose focus and redirection. Meanwhile, I have encountered wiring/connectivity disconnects within the harness on my Mercruiser 140 and am currently becoming overwhelmed with that. I will post progress on either should should any occur. Hopefully I'll...

    2.3 cobra shift problem now...?

So, after installing new impeller kit and cable adapters my '89 will not shift into forward when idling...it shifts perfect when engine not running...I wonder if this condition has been the cause of my impellers burning up? Any suggestions? Thank you!

    OMC 2.3 fuel starved???

Sorry for the delay...spent the last several weeks working the outdrive and shift mechanism. Finally got all of that together again. So, here I am back where I left off...crank, no start issue...so back to the title question of ignition or fuel problem? So I'll check for spark again and look...
