    mercruiser distrbutor upgrade

    I have a merc 898 with points ignition. I would like to upgrade to electronic ignition. Accel makes an upgrade kit just changing guts under the cap. Its for automotive application and wonder if it will work for a marine application. I am unsure of the differences in the ignition between the two.

    I am trying to determine what model my outdrive is. The boat is a '77 cobalt with an mcm 898. There are no tags or numbers stamped on the outdrive that i can find. The marina has had problems looking up parts in the past. I would like to be sure for own sanity or before ordering anything...

    mercury 898 water blowing out carb base gasket
