1981 Johnson 90 HP overheating, but not all the time

I've been searching for a MacGyver hack where you mount a digital thermometer with a cable to the dash. You mount one sensor on each side on the top cylinders.

Thanks to all for helping me through this. I had a trip planned and I was pushing to find a good running replacement for my 84 Suzuki.

Water Leaking Near Exhaust Plate - V4

When I rev it up, water sprays from behind the exhaust plate. See pictures. It's also coming out around some of the screws, and appears to be a gasket issue. . Is this gasket a big deal to replace? .

Okay! I think I, (you guys got it). I now just need to take it to the river and run it around some. . It sounds nice and idles down low nicely. . I will upload some videos later tonight and post the links to them here. . It may or may not be it, but I disconnected the primer solenoid. Even...

Moving on to the bleed system (recirculating system and valves). Looks like I get to take the carburetors off again. 😊

@racerone, I saw you post in another thread about a way to check if the crankcase isn't sucking in unmetered air. I did a search on that and I guess one suggestion was to remove the carburetors and put a seal plate over the intake manifold. Then I think you somehow plug off exhaust openings too...

Ha! I googled it. The bleed system appears to be the Recirculation System. I was just reading about that last night. I think it was a suggestion by Joe Reeves. . See, I'm learning.😊 See, I'm trying. 😊

How about the recirculation valves? I guess I can check that they aren't plugged, or stuck open.

What's the bleed system? Bowls aren't plastic.

No, What do you suggest checking next?

Actually, no, it's likely not stuck open. If it was, my primer bulb wouldn't get solid. Nevermind. I'm trying everyone's suggestions. And checking things you guys bring up. I'm just not finding what's causing the issue, and I'm just searching and searching the forums. . Bright side is I'm going...

Yeah, sorry. If the primer solenoid valve is stuck open and the fuel pump is pumping, the fuel would be just 'pumping' on through the primer solenoid straight to the carburetors, correct?

Since this thread has gotten long, and since it's about possible air/fuel issues, I won't include my ignition troubleshooting here. . Once I get done verifying all the ignition stuff, and if I don't find anything wrong with anything related to the ignition, I'm going to try checking the primer...
