Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

I grabbed a quote from you from another thread. Why the 49ci vs the 56ci?

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

I've been watching lots of YouTube videos. There is a lot of videos out there for these. . I've been telling friends I wish there was a Small Block Chevy in the outboard world. The Johnson is it. There's full rebuild kits for $600. And people rebuild them in their garage. I'm excited to find one...

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

Can I expand my search to the 1990's. Do carbed 90's still have good parts availability? What years from 1979 up of the 70hp still use carbs and still have a good user base?

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

Because I had no idea the pin that holds the clutch dog in place was about to come out and chew up my gears in my 84 Suzuki, I'm asking sellers if everything else checks out, and I'm a serious buyer, would they be willing to let me open up the lower unit. If all is good in there, I'll buy it. ...

    Tiller Main Motor

My kicker works fine as a tiller because it's mounted up higher on the transum. But my main motor has controls and has a 20 inch shaft. . It seems to me with our StarCrafts and the depth of the splashwell, and how low our main motors sit, that you'd need at least a 24 or 25 inch shaft to mount...

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

A friend sent me a link to a 1998 Evinrude 115. . This is what I get when I Google that 115. . "A 1998 Evinrude 115 with fuel injection (the early FICHT system) is generally considered a high-risk motor. While the power and concept were great, this specific first-generation fuel-injected engine...

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

My friends keep recommending newer ones. Mercury Optimax? Fuel injection? Maybe I'm not realistic, but I really rather not have a motor that I have to rely on a shop to repair. Shops are so over the top expensive anymore, and so many times it takes multiple visits to get it right.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

If you guys were to create a list for easy to work on and good major parts availability, would the mid 70's to early 90's at 70hp be at the top? Would the 90hp be number 2? . Just using Google, that's what I'm coming up with. . Basically, I want an outboard like a first or second generation...

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

I'm pretty settled on a 70hp. I'm not trying to go fast. For everything I do, 20mph on plane is all I need. My current 1984 2-stroke Suzuki 75hp feels a little heavy on my boat, but it gives me way more speed than I ever need.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

Hello, My 84 Suzuki 75hp lower unit is now shot. Parts support is dead. . I'm shopping for a used 50hp to 70hp outboard for my 1967 StarCraft. . I'm reading that a Late 70's to Late 80's Johnson/Evinrude has a lots of parts available. Used, NOS and aftermarket. . I'm good with a wrench. . Am I...

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

I've been really happy with my beater. It's not pretty, but it does the job and doesn't leak one bit. . I plan on keeping it ugly but safe, solid, and reliable. . The keel and bunk rollers had worn out so instead of replacing them I researched and learned that bunks would give my riveted boat...
