I was thinking similar.
I've been looking closely at that there on other motors like mine because mine had a whole lot less thread showing, and mine was too retarded using static timing.
I think I've gotten that gunk when I idled in a barrel too long.
Is that what that motor calls for?
Unless you have a vintage Johnson, I would think you should be closer to 50:1 - That would be less ounces of oil per gallon than what you are mixing at 24:1. 24:1 seems like way too much oil per...
Every motor seems to be slightly different, but for mine I have to raise the throttle handle up about an inch and a half, and then just do a squirt when cranking. I don't hold or keep the key pushed in while cranking. But that's just mine.
Once the motor is warm, I don't have to push the key in...
