FWIW. they were outstanding on freight shipping for 2 3/4" Coosa panels, 5 Nidacore panels, a bunch of epoxy and a few other things.
When I did my Stratos rebuild, I remember looking into putting 2L bottles in the void to save on materials. I was less well off back then. The response was not pretty,
Planning ahead here. Unfortunately, my rebuild of 12 years ago had some water intrusion into a section of deck requiring me to revisit the upper portion of the rebuild. Pulling the cap will not be a big deal so I am pulling it and the wood deck and redoing it with nidacore.
With the cap pulled...
I'd cut a piece to fit in there with perhaps an 1/8" gap around the edges. Mix some thickened resin and press flush. Cover with biax and you should be good to go IMHO.
Can also do a partial fill with thickened resin and form wetted out biax into the void.
Getting some warm afternoons here and there. Getting a chance to nidacore the hatches on my boat. They were originally constructed with some kind of rot resistant redwood and would leak reddish water if they got rained on too much.
First time using vinylester resins too. Cheaper for hatches and...
It is much like having run your first marathon. You know what's in store. How to pace yourself. There is no fear.
Darnit! Now give me warm weather to start glassing!
IMHO anyone who does what we do is certifiably insane or a super hero!
I love seeing other people progress!
Back in 2014ish when I took on my rebuild, I was thinking "What have I done!"
Now, with the right hull, it's like "Wet transom? Water in stringers? How low will you go on the price?"
I'm not a big fan of PL. I used it in some spots and although it held well for a while, it just gave up the ghost.
As I showed in my pics, the thick mix of cut glass with fumed silica was all that I used. Didn't use any screws. I am cutting off the cap here as soon as I get some decent weather...
