    Unable to drop lower gearbox on 40hp, 1972 merc 402

    New to this engine (1972, 40hp, 402 thunderbolt) and want to change the cooling system impeller. I loosened the one nut (thats all there is) from each side, and took the one off in very back, This has loosened the lower unit off on the front side but still seems to be solid on the back side...

    1972 Mercury 402 leg oil level

    Bought a old 402 and wondering which plug is the oil level for the leg, FLUSH or VENT. Going to drop the oil tonight and will fill tomorrow. I assume I fill from the FLUSH hole and the VENT is the oil level. I'm also thinking its going to be a slow process to fill, any tips out there?
