When your out of the hole and on a plane, the engine will be less taxed. I noticed it when I'm out of the hole and adjust my trim upwards the engine is straining less. You can actually hear the engine mellowing out, when you trim up on the plane. It's a sweet spot.
You should definitely look into Boat US. It's $175 for the year and you get free tows. I'm not sure how many tows they limit you for the year, but it's well worth it, especially in your case. For what it's worth I have had the same issue with restarting my boat while it's hot, I have a 1985 Merc...
👍 I was actually thinking of cutting my exhaust bellows also, I bought an exhaust tube recently, I may actually just cut the exhaust bellows and not use the exhaust tube now, one less thing to do as I have to do my drive shaft bellows very soon, after I replace the Gimbal bearing.
